I really like the Rattle Hawk. I had my airfare and all for blade this year and the week before something came up and I had to change my plans. Guess there is always next year.

Almost looks like it was setting a bend when prying the door open?

Here are the Kill Devil and Rattler side by side. The rattler is a little thicker and taller. It does crave blood. the only bussekin to draw mine.

    KG10,

why is the Rattler bent in the last picture?

whats the reasoning for the differences in thickness?

obvious diference in that last picture.

    I'm theorizing here...

    1) I don't think it's bent, just held slightly askance so that you are seeing more of one side than the other - not easy to get a straight-on shot of an axe with such a head...

    2) KDSH is thinner to be lighter for carry & use, 3/16" SR101 is plenty thick to maintain structure for most applications. RH is thicker & longer with a different blade design for increased b4d@$$ use Also, with the sharper grinds, the extra thickness provides more support to the RH's edges. *shrug*

It's not; it's the perspective playing tricks on you. You are not looking directly down the center, so it appears bent due to seeing some of the inside of the head. Try this; save the picture to your computer, then turn the picture so that the heads are toward the top. It should look clearer to you now.

    Kill-Devil = 0.20" thick, Rattle Hawk = 0.25" thick.

c.g hit the nail on the head. KD was made thinner in order to be lighter and more carry friendly for the people who asked for the original design (US military snipers in Afghanistan).

    Har har

    If I had to guess:

Rattle = pure bloodshed hawk. Made to cut flesh.
Kill Devil = lightweight hawk for snipers to poke holes in clay walls in afghanistan
Crash Rat = Wartime hawk that's also good for destroying houses made out of 2x4's. The axe looks "fireman-ish" and the bottom looks like a prybar. Perfect for breaching city houses and buildings.

    Hey wacki,
Of the three I have on hand right now,
Crash Rat has Tan canvas micarta handles
Kill Devil has black canvas micarta
    Rattle Hawk has orange/green G10

Kill Devil is not mine, on loan from my Canadian brother, whom right now has to be a lot cooler than I. I am very envious.
