life may go on, i now own a Kuksa!!

hey folks.. just thought i would share some pics of my new kuksa i recently got from Alex Yerks of Adahy's Trading Co.. (he has his own vendor forum over at BCUSA..)

for those of you that don't know what a kuksa is, its a type of drinking cup traditionally crafted by the Sami people of northern Scandinavia, they're usually carved from birch..

my birthday was last friday and this was a present to myself.. it arrived monday, and i went to the p.o. first thing in the a.m. to pick it up.. i have been drinking out of it everyday since...

i have wanted a good kuksa for many years, i am so stoked to finally have one.. Alex does some really nice work and is way cool to chat with also..

this is Alex's noggin model, made from white birch.. this thing is awesome.. i loooove it.. it holds a little less than a full cup of liquid.. it's perfect size..

right on.. thanks Rocky.. this was my first try making a pouch like this, i found a cool tutorial and gave it a go. i have been working with leather off and on for many years now, what were you intersted in??

Indeed looks like great work. I noticed there are synthetic versions (Kupilka) out there.

What is the specific advantage to this pattern? Or is it just the attraction of tradition? I get that not being metal means its won't burn your lips and can be handled with bare hands.
