    winters a ways off but...
    has our frigged countries cold ever rendered your blades brittle? ever have one shatter on you?

    Had a hatchet get a poplar sized notch out of it. The hatchet was Chinese crap in 1979 when i was surveying northern Alberta

    Kydex can get brittle enough to crack in winter, so can zap straps. This question has come up before, and the general response is if you're still alive, its not cold enough to noticbly affect your knife. Cast Iron can get rather brittle when cold though.

    thats good to know, the only blade I have ever made is from iron. I use it for dirty yard work and it holds up well aside from needing to be constantly sharpened, but I have never used it in the winter. and now I know not to :P

    No - I would die from exposure long before the cold would make my knife blades brittle. At those temperatures, I'm more worried about me than my knives
