A separate thread inquiring abour pearl reminded me how much I like the stuff, and how ridiculous it is that I have but one pearl handled knife to call my own:

The range of colour, the natural chatoyancy, and the welcome natural stability really endear this material to me.

So please show me yours and maybe I will get some inspiration for what my next pearl handled knife might be. Fixed or folder, black / white / gold, one you own, one you made, or one you just like. Doesn't matter as long as it's pearl.

Nice looking knife! I'm in the same boat, so to speak, this is my only pearl handled knife. Its an early 1900's (1907-1914) Gottlieb Hammesfahr I picked up at an antique shop for $4! Great little knife.

I do need more pearl handled knives! Maybe a nice SF knife should be added to the collection...

    Roger,

Good idea for a thread. Next to Ivory Pearl is my favorite handle material and it is also easy to maintain.

Here is a Pearl Bowie by the late Hugh Bartrug MS:

A folder by Hugh Bartrug MS:

Here is a Pearl folder by retired MS Wayne Valachovic:

A Black lip Interframe by Wayne Valachovic:

    A Persian Bichag by Wayne:

Here is a Brown lip folder by JD Smith, MS:

I used to own this JD Smith Gold lip folder:

This one was made for me by Bud Weston. It has extensive file work, engraving, titanium liner. Rose pattern Damascus 4" blade, 9"OA.

great timing Roger- I've got a little pearl such and such in the works. Currently trying to source out some nice scales, maybe this thread will help me to find out more about what I'm looking for.

While i've always been partial to black pearl, gold lip has become obscure if not unobtainium

Here is one that I made a couple years back. I'm looking forward to working with mother of pearl some more and have a couple projects in mind.

Really great stuff gents - thanks for the treat and keep 'em coming.

Jim - thanks for the peek at those Bartrug pieces - I remember his style so very well from way back in the day.

Marcel - thanks for checking in and showing us where Jim's sleek J.D. Smith piece went.

STeven - I remember you being a fan of pearl and know you have great taste in knives - both are evident in this glimpse into your collection.

TerryV - that is just lovely!

Peter - I so agree on goldlip. I had a chance at a large Osborse folder in goldlip two years back that I am kicking myself over now.

Good stuff guys.. let's see some more of what's out there.

    Roger,

JD made the knife that I showed about 7 years ago. I believe that he made Marcel's knife more recently. They are similar but not the same knife.

You may only have one pearl handled knife but it's a pretty nice one to have Roger.

    I don't own these but.........

Two of my favorite knifemakers use quite a bit of MOP, thought I would share some examples here.
    First several from Jerry Fisk:

And a few from Steve Johnson with Added beauty from the art of Barry Lee Hands.

Jerry is one of the few bladesmiths I have seen who consistently use pearl on some special fixed blades. Those are all terrific.

J.W. Randall has had a single small pearl dagger on his table each of the last two blade shows. Both times it was an early sell.

    Roger

PS - keithf - the stone belongs to Murray White - I'm sure he'll be along later to show us some pearl from his collection and can fill you in on the stone then. He's told me before, but my powers of retention are slipping.
