The file was softened in the fire but went out a bit off set.
Can I just hammer it back or is there another method?
Thanks for any help – Michael.

    bend it.
Put two blocks on your workbench end place the file on them with the warp in the middle and facing upwards.
Take a good clamp (C-clamp or so) and press the warp out with the clamp.

Whack it with a rawhide or rubber mallet

Throw it out. Probably a case hardened file that isn't useful for knife making anyway.

I thought about it, but it is stamped “Nicolson Made in the U.S.A” and it is dated back to the 70’s, according to my father in law who gave it to me. I did heat it until red white, though .
    What do you think?
    Thanks a lot!

To test you can TH the tang (no temper) and hit it with a hammer.
If it breaks she's good, if it bends it is scrap
