I was wondering what your favorite multi-tool is and why. I do not have one and would like some feedback. Please don't answer with "it all depends on what you prefer." I just want to hear some advantages of your tools. Thanks,

Current EDC favorite is the Leatherman Rebar. Has all of the attributes of the Supertool 300, but at 2/3 the size. Slides into the vertical pocket on a pair of 5.11 pants. Replaceable cutters. For non-EDC, maybe the Supertool 300, which gives a little more utility and is not overly costy.

    Rebar.

I really don't have much for comparison because the one I would suggest is the first multi-tool I've had but I love it. The SOG powerlock. I like their compound leverage system and the way the handles are linked together because of it.

Oh and it all really depends on what you prefer.

Leatherman wave. Always have one in the truck. I'm sure as soon as the OHT comes out it will replace her.

  7. I've got three favourites, each in their size category:

-Large. Super Tool 300. I like the extra strength and the big pliers with replaceable cutters. It's got everything I need except for scissors (but I just pair it up with a small SAK or a Style CS).

-Medium. Victorinox SwissTool Spirit (with the corkscrew, ratchet and bits). For quite a while I carried this one exclusively, I love everything about it. I've really abused it and it keeps going strong.

-Small. Leatherman Juice CS4. Great tool for those times when I'm going light, it's small enough to fit comfortably in my pocket or in my smaller backpacks, but it's still large enough to handle most chores.

I tried a lot and these three are the ones I've settled on. I rarely carry my multitool on my person (except for the Juice or Skeletool). I keep them in my backpack as a back-up to my main knife and SAK, that's why I don't find tools like the Charge too appealing, since I don't use the knife blades that much and one hand opening isn't a priority.

I don't have that many, but my favorite is the Leatherman Micra. Fits on my keychain; very useful, especially the scissors.

Victorinox Spirit X. I have had a variety of multitools of various brands, and this one suits me the best.

It is compact without being too small, it is robust, it has a sensible and varied array of tools (not just a wad of screwdrivers), it allows each of the tools to be opened without unfolding the pliers, all of the tools lock, and the fit and finish are superb.

I carried an original Spirit happily for years and then got the X version because I preferred the conventional knife blade.

Leatherman Super Tool 300, I have big hands so it fills good to me, the 4 inch models are just to little for me. I like the tools on the 300 and the heft, the wire cutters are outstanding too. The price point is another good reason I like the ST300, not bad for a 4.5 inch tool with alot of capability.

Swisstool X. The thing oozes quality and Victorinox has the best scissors on the market. The Swisstool has a excellent assortment of tools too.

    Long live the weasels!

My favorite multi-tool changes with my lifestyle. Long ago, I was happy with a Swisschamp as my only multi-tool, not even caring what else there was available. Apart from feeling the necessity of carrying a good quality m-t (why waste pocket space with something that has one blade only?), I had no interest in them as a subject, let alone a hobby.

That lasted for years until I encountered my first Leatherman, a PST. Instantly, I was pretty much won over with the concept of an actually usable pliers in the multi-implement mix. After a reasonable trial period, though, I returned to the SAK. It seemed to me that overall, I got more utility from the Swisschamp than the PST.

But that all changed when I discovered the original version Super Tool, with its locking implements and sturdy build. It was love at first sight, and the honeymoon lasted. The only thing missing was scissors, but then leatherman brought forth the Micra, which supplemented the ST perfectly. For the next 9 years, those two were my constant companions.

Somewhere on the journey, I got interested in multi-tools, even regular knives, and acquired several. I like to evaluate them in actual work, keeping the ones that suit me and selling off or giving away those that don't (I'm not a collector, never liked too much stuff in my life).

Today, I have about a dozen total Leathermen and Vic SAKs, selected for daily carry based on what kind of day I anticipate. If "serious" work is on the agenda, I take the ST 300, an improved version of the original I liked so much. For "out and about," I go with a Charge TTi because of its versatility, one hand blade opening and lighter weight. When I travel, it's with the 'champ because it's legal and non-controversial almost everywhere, and still provides a whole lot of capability. If I really don't want to be bothered, but as a once Boy Scout, (nobody is ever a former Boy Scout ) I pocket an S2, and no matter what larger m-t I'm carrying, a Vic Rambler is always on board in my jeans watch pocket.

Whichever I'm carrying or using at a given time is my favorite.

For a user, my favorite is my camo Leatherman Charge Tti. It's got everything I really need in a pocket tool. As for my favorite, it's probably my Leatherman Sideclip. It's just so damn cool! If anyone ever came out with a comparable sized mt with a one handed outside opening blade, I'd buy a pallet of 'em!

Right now the Leatherman Micra, great scissors and screw drivers. Small package. Now I'm really considering getting a Squirt.
