Shaving cream discovered in the wild.

I have been wanting to try Palmolive shaving cream from India for some time now. Today, pretty much on a whim, I decided to stop at an Indian/International market here in town. My son and I walked in and it was like a third world market complete with an Indian man working the register. After nodding to him, we began to walk down the aisles checking out their wares. I was about to consider it a bust when I noticed Palmolive bar soap on the end of one aisle. Further inspection of that row led me to these:



Cost me about 3.30 a piece. So for a ten and some change, I came home with them. I have already had my morning shave so I tried out the lime Godrej and that is one fine shaving cream.



My wife walked by and saw me making a practice lather and wanted to see how the scent was. It has a wonderful lime scent and she quickly took my pewter bowl and boar brush with her. Using a Lady Gillette starburst razor from 1963, she declares this shaving cream a big hit.

The tube is 70 grams which is about half of what Bigelow weighs in at.

The guy at the store was a bit surprised when I approached the counter. He asked where I had heard about shaving creams and we had a short discussion on wet shaving. He said I was the only "American" that had ever purchased his shaving creams and assured me that he always kept a good stock of it.

Pretty sure they have it on Amazon and Ebay but I think it takes a few weeks for delivery as it comes from India. Good bargain creams.

I've heard a lot of positives about Godrej cream(s)

Not tried it myself, yet, but I will look into this, Lime is a very good scent for shaving cream in my view.

People in the indian subcontinent have not yet been brainwashed about cartridge/can foam 'shaving' it seems

Nice score, all I have around here in town is canned goo, if I want a true shaving soap I have to drive 30 miles, east or west and hit up a shoppers drugmart to get some Proraso or order from one of the online stores if I want something different.

I haven't cased my area too well, but I have found Williams, VDH deluxe and C.O. Bigelow.

I plan on doing some more searching and will post results.

Cool stuff! I wish there were more ethnic markets in my area. There's a nice little Asian market in the southern part of Maine that has some fun foods and snacks, but nothing like home products. Off topic, but they used to carry Taiwanese "Hey Song Sarsaparilla" which is a fantastic soda--if you ever get the chance, try it!

Italian Barber does free shipping to Canada on orders over a certain amount. Also, House of Knives has Kernel Conks shaving soap. I effing hate house of knives, but I buy my soap from them. Body shop also has a decent shaving soap meant for use with brush.

Have you tried Gilmer Pharmacy in the Iroquois Shopping center? They probably have some shaving bar soap.

Guilty as charged :P As for fendrihan, I prefer itallian barber for prices and selection. Either website gives exceptional service though! I was eyeing proraso at shoppers the other day. Is it any good?

Of all the soaps I have tried it is the easiest to get a good lather with. For me it gives good glide and cushion. It does leave a little to be desired in the scent, but I do like the menthol smell, its just not as nice as some of the others I have tried.

I use the C.O. bigelowe branded Proraso and its my daily standard. Its basically the standard that everything get compared to for me. The scent is not unwelcoming, my wife really likes the clean scent, but it doesn't make you want to dive in it either. Pretty much can't go wrong with it. Bowl or face lather, hard or soft water it just does the job well, nothing more, nothing less.
