I read an article once upon a time where the author likened the pocket clip on a knife to a badge. In his experience, nearly all citizens who were carrying a concealed firearm had a knife clipped to their pockets.

In my experience, I find that neither his statement nor the opposite is universally true. I know quite a few people who carry concealed handguns, but do not carry a knife with a pocket clip. I also know a *LOT* of people who carry knives with pocket clips who do not carry a concealed handgun.

I just finished reading another article on identifying people who carry, and it again mentions looking for "an expensive knife clipped to the pocket"...

What say you?

Most people I know have knifes clipped to their pockets but no concealed firearms (unless you count the firearms in their pickups).

I think that Concealed Carry folk tend to like being prepared...that would include carrying pocket knives, flashlights etc. So yeah, seeing someone with a knife probably increases the likelihood though does not guarantee that they are carrying. Perhaps a right handed person with a left handed knife, while wearing a large untucked pattern shirt or vest, Tactical Instructor Belt, and 5.11 pants and Ballistic Sunglasses would even further increase the likely hood, but really...you never know.

That's not quite word for word from the article I just read, but close enough. I seem to fall pretty squarely in that category. LOL My knife is in my strong side back pocket, though. Perhaps a wardrobe change is in order.

I do prefer to be prepared. I generally have a knife, a multitool, a flashlight, and a keyring flashlight on me at all times. There's nothing so frustrating as needing something you normally carry and not having it...

I probably read the same one a while back or something similar but I don't think the statement holds true, now I would say most people carrying a gun will also be carrying a knife not always clipped to their pocket though. I would say from my experience that atleast 90% of the people with a knife clipped to their pocket don't have a gun, I just happen to fall in that 10%.

I have a permit to carry deadly weapons concealed and I do like that the State of Ky. allows me to carry....
(and not just a firearm)

•Any weapon from which a shot, readily capable of producing death or serious physical injury, may be discharged.
•Any knife other than an ordinary pocket knife or hunting knife.
•Billy, nightstick, or club.
•Blackjack or slapjack.
•Nunchaku karate sticks.
•Shiriken or death star.
•Artificial knuckles made from plastic, or other similar hard material.

Well really I like the any knife part best.

That's after you go through an 8 hour class, knowledge test, shooting range test, and back ground check, only makes sense if they trust you to concealed carry a gun why wouldn't you be able to carry other "deadly" weapons. Now if you want to open carry all you have to do is be legally allowed to own it.

Last I checked, police were allowed to carry deadly weapons, and weapons of mass destruction were lumped in with deadly weapons.

I don't know that a visible knife pocket clip, but I would assume that "fanny packs" and Maxpidition gear slingers would increase the rate of being a cop or concealed firearm/ weapon of mas destruction

I live in Nevada and I can tell you that many, many people here carry knives and very few excersize their right to carry. In my circle of friends I have about 10 buddies in total that carry knives at all times and none of them pack a firearm(yet), and the one of my buddies that has his gun on him at all times never carries a knife except for a throwaway knife of which I will avoid discussing the purpose of such an item. I don't know who the author was of this article, but I find it poorly researched. Wearing all of that tactical gear in public is asking for problems. I dislike nutnfancy and his opinions-typically-are poorly founded and based on ridiculous observations. I will say: I agree with his statements about tactical items in public (when not on the job, if tactical is involved in your job). He says not to wear tactical items(i.e. assault packs, molle covered gear, camo gear, tactical pants, military boots, etc.)because anyone with the desire to kill people en masse will take out any potential threat first, and the person wearing all of this gear will likely be prepared and will most likely land in the criminals crosshairs before anyone else. That may have been a tid bit off topic but I felt it was worth addressing.

Unlike knives, a gun is a weapon. A knife has a 101 uses that don't harm people, but I can't think of more than 1 or 2 things you could use a gun for that don't involve bodily harm.

The people who feel the need to carry a weapon are far fewer than those who feel the need to carry a cutting tool. Sometimes they overlap, but not nearly that often.

It means any as in all the rest, autos, no blade length restrictions. I would have worded it different myself, but I did ask the class instructor about the way it reads and he said there's no knife period you can't carry.

I've been carrying a knife a lot longer than I've been carrying a gun. I guess there's SOME correlation, but I think it's a pretty weak premise. If there are lots of other clues, I guess it can be taken as just another indicator.

I wish Louisiana included knives in their concealed carry laws. Luckily, the laws are pretty knife friendly. Or at least the people are. Most people in my area carry a knife of some sort or at least understand why others do.
