so after all of yalls wonderful advice i decided to go with the swamp rat, however it wasnt the rodent solution, at the begining of this whole search i originally wanted a swamp warden and one popped up in the exchange to that is the way im going to go. I have every intention of following the classic blade forums advice of "get both" however its going to be a little while till i have some more spare cash so the RS will have to wait just a little.

thank you everyone for you time and input it is greatly appriciated

I have handled a RS and own an ESEE 3. I would not replace my 3 with an RS. Not to say the RS is a bad knife at all because it isnt its just my 3 melts into my hand and I prefer its slimmer blade. Keep in mind I also have TKC replacement scales on my 3. I think you will be happy with the Warden.

As far as toughness goes I think that comes down to the user I have seen both an ESEE 3 and a RS broken and they were broken in the same fashion (in a tree and beat with a hammer) and it was deffently abuse. So I dont think one is any tougher than the other also both knife companys offered to replace the broken knives.

One thing I like much more about 1095 over SR101 is its ease of sharpening in the field. Yes SR101 will hold an edge a bit longer, but thats not to say the Rowen 1095 is bad imo the way Rowen does 1095 puts it in a class above any other 1095 on the market. Im not saying SR101 is bad as im planning to order an RMD to fill the 5 inch blade roll.

i have beat the spine with a mall to trim cedar fence boards as well. it make me sad that as abusive as i am i cannot break it. i wont try harder. I mistakenly thought it was almost unbreakable. i have held and E3. no way i would hammer on it

Now I know why folks like these so much.

Nearly done convexing the edge, this head cold is making it tough.

Very nearly if not an ideal knife. Fantastic for edc and utility. Be a fantastic hunter as well.

Agreed the edge is thick and not terribly great from the factory. I thinned mine and convexed it, and it is superb now! Stout little knife, and I plan to buy a couple more before they're discontinued.

Also, here's another RS thread you might be interested in.
