It seems this board frowns on deal spotting. If I remember correctly, a few members have been warned for doing so. Go figure, it's the only forum I've ever come across that frowns on it.

Deal spotting is frowned upon because it potentially takes business away from paying members.

Here is a thread about great prices from last September. It wasn't frowned upon, since Stacy posted in it

I don't see why we can't keep something like this going

It is not because of competing with paying members. It is because it would almost crash the forums. Read on -

Mentioning a good supplier for knife supplies and equipment is allowed. Deal spotting isn't.
Telling the folks in Shop Talk that a supplier in Ohio has a lot of stuff for sale all the time is OK, if it doesn't become a sales thread about a specific item.
Deal spotting is when someone puts up a thread that says. "I saw this power hammer on Craig's List in Albuquerque".....
While I certainly understand that that might be might be a great deal for somebody in Albuquerque, it isn't general info, and it isn't what the forum owners allow.
With tens of thousands of members, and thousands of good deals on ebay/Craig's/Traders/etc, the forums would be running out of bandwidth if everyone posted every deal they see. And bandwidth isn't free - the owners pay for it.
You also would find last nights knife WIP on this evening's page six. People would stop coming to Shop Talk because it is hard to find the info when it is buried in all the deal spotting.
If you have a favorite knife supplies seller, steel supplier, heat treater, wood stabilizer, industrial supply, scrap yard, etc.....tell us about them.(But try and avoid posting sales info and prices if at all possible.)

As you guys have seen, the mods are pretty lenient on such things unless it is a single item deal spotting thread, or a sales thread where the poster has an interest.

If you think that a separate "Deal Spotting" sub-forum is a good idea, send a message to Spark, but I wouldn't keep my hopes high on it happening.
