The Queens come dull and the blade profiles are a little thick. The D2 took a bit more effort than my other soddies but does seem to hold a good edge.

Yesterday I carried an old German Eye Brand Soddie I got of the bay, its been used and looks good!


today I carried a Heinrich Schmitz Hippekniep in Stainless with Stag handles, made in Germany. Wish this was Carbon but the stainless seems to keep a good edge.

I don't have one, never thought to buy one, especially because I like natural materials on the scales, but this thread made me change my mind. Now it's a matter of funds So thanks to all posters, great knives.

ok finally got around to getting me a sodbuster, actually 2. A coworker mentioned he had a friend that has lots of traditionals, so I asked if he had a sodbuster, and possibly a USA stamped Old Timer 8OT, this is what came this morning.

Here's a pic of mine. Has been in a drawer for the last few years. I took it out when I saw it was the traditional of the month. Gave it a little color the other night cutting up my venison steak. Otherwise it snaps like an alligator and is sharp as heck.

Took the Moore Maker in yellow bone out today. This is my favorite handle material of all my soddies. This is made by Queen under contract for Moore Maker and the steel is 1095. I still need to get this thing a good patina, I'm not a polished blade fan on my soddies.

I have one of those. I agree, it's my favorite handle material also for sodbusters. I know that the usual covers for soddies are synthetics, but I'll take natural if I have a choice.

Couple of days behind again

Two days ago I received a used Fred.Herder Abr Sohn sodbuster in the mail. It had a pretty uneven sharpening job done to it and some pretty bad scratches on the blade. I straightened out the grind and made the scratches a little bit less noticeable. It adds some serious character to my collection of Soddies!



Yesterday I carried my Bear and Son. 1095 steel with a forced apple vinegar patina. I've heard some horror stories of the B&S's fit and finish but this one is pretty good!

Still carrying the #71 in place of a #73. Used it to cut some grape vines this past Sunday as they were reaching out a little to far in the wrong directions.

Well now, this is just eerie. Just ordered my first two Sodbusters today, only to discover it's Soddie Month!

I've taken it as an omen that it's finally time to stop stalking from the shadows and join already. These are some gorgeous knives on display; can't wait to add mine!

Number one has arrived. I must say it looks like I got a good 'un...it's even helped me with a bit of cardboard already, and performed very well indeed!

What's the size on this one, and do you have any more information? I cleaned up a knife that looks a lot like this for a good friend's father, who got it from his father. The only visible markings I could find were SOLINGEN and, if I remember correctly, GERMANY beneath that. It was an absolutely massive folder, with a blade over four inches long.

I have one small Boker Arbolito soddie with yellow composite handles. I'll post a photo tomorrow. The fit and finish on that one isn't great, nor was the grind, and it's sort of ugly... But it works and the carbon steel takes a wicked edge.

well guys...now you've gone and done it...you convinced me. after looking at all the pics, i had to get one. i just received my first sodbuster....a case sodbuster jr. i like it as much as i thought i would. i am just now starting to get more interested in the traditional knives. i recently purchased a Canal Street 2-blader and a Queen 3-blader (i'd have to look up the models). and, at the risk of being blasphemous, i like the soddie better. apparently, i like the 1-blade patterns. and, i like the handle shape quite a bit.

it has a crack in both scales above the center pin. it doesn't bother me much because this knife would be a user. BUT...i was curious...has anyone rehandled a sodbuster before? i have done a few fixed blade handles, but never a folder. i imagine it is much more complicated...or precise, i would think.

anyone ever have any success doing it? if so, i would love to pick your brain. feel free to PM or email me.
