    Just have to vent

I bought a 0560 last weekend from a buddy of mine, as I have been wanting one for awhile now and wanted to help him out. I was carrying it today and using it while clearing out the business next door. We had a bunch of coolers and tables to load up on to a moving truck to take to one of our other restaurants. I let the guy I was working with use it to cut some rope to tie some stuff down in the truck. I kept getting things ready to take out of the place because we had to park the truck about 40 yards away. I ask him for it back about 45 minutes later to cut some wire connected through the ceiling to the audio system. He reaches in his pockets and pulls nothing out. I started getting a little nervous at this point. He says oh yea I left it on the truck with the rope. So I go out with him, and rope is there but no 0560. We looked all around and inside everything in and around the truck. No knife. We look inside the business, no knife. We finally got back and unloaded the truck, and looked again with no luck. I can only think someone walking by had sticky fingers or he took it(I really don't think he did as he is not really into knives and I have known him for awhile). So on top of moving huge commercial coolers and tables for 12 hours as if that wasn't bad enough, now I'm 0560less. Anyways just had to vent as I really loved that thing for the few days I had it, and now I am still retracing every little thing I can remember to see what we missed.

Man i feel for ya, it would be the same as a knife falling out of pocket and not noticing until you get home. Hope it does turn up. Maybe it's in a toolbox somewhere.

Any knife guy will tell you.... never let anyone borrow your knife unless it's a beater that you don't care about.

Again, hope you find it... but with no disrespect intended* NEVER "lend a knife" to anyone!!!!! If you love it (like it sounds like you do) Never give your knife to ANYONE!!! I am moar likely to "lend" someone my underpants than let them leave my sight with my EDC. If they need to use it then I will use it for them, but never have I once handed over something so cherished, and thought nothing but he worst! (literally, I wouldn't borrow my dad my mini-grip last year at a family reunion to sharpen hot-dog sticks!!!) I am genuinely sorry for your loss, and I hope this never hapens to you again!!

A non-knife-person will never understand the value that knife-people like us put on our knives. The same could go for anything. If you collected Bic lighters and a friend asked to use the special one that you carry, I'm sure they wouldn't think twice about just leaving it somewhere because it's not important to them, it's just a Bic lighter. To people that don't understand, it's just a knife. This is why I never let people touch the things that matter to me most, and I always try to carry two knives. But I do hope you find it and I'm sorry you lost it man.

I'm a big fan of being a generous knife-nut and allowing someone to use my knife. I haven't had a problem yet. YMMV
I don't understand this philosophy of carrying a tool that's so high-class that it can't be loaned to someone, but to each their own.

Now... loaning something to someone you don't trust to begin with, that's a bad idea no matter what.

I hope you find your knife, OP!

Never loan your knife...if not, should be one of "Gibb's Rules". It is one of mine.
That moron owes you for the knife but I doubt you'll see a red cent.

I guess I learned my lesson the hard way. No knife of mine will ever be lent to anyone. I am still keeping my fingers crossed that it will pop up. I also, did and still do trust him. I really don't think he did anything but leave it sitting out in the open or misplace it somewhere. I just feel like an idiot for it only last a few day, and I am really good about keeping up with my knives.

Bum Deal. Its hard to ask him to replace it if its a friend, and if its not a friend they won't replace it anyways so it sucks all around. I only lend my knives to people who know that I'm a knife fanatic and think I might value my knife more than their lives... just kidding. But yah only people who know of my addiction get to use them.

    Hopefully you find it!

That's why I carry a little SAK. If they don't have their own knife I might let them use my SAK. I won't let anyone use my other knives.

Man that stinks. I'm very reluctant to let folks borrow my knife. I usually let them use the blade on my leatherman.

Its not that its too high class for them to use its that most have no concept of what its really worth, They think $25 is lots to spend on a knife and that fact that it might be $250 or more blows their minds...

I have the same rule for foutain pens, most people don't know how to use them and wil just wreck them if they try. So I have a cheap (by fountain pen standards) pen and knife for loaners. They are still worth more than most people realize, as both are about $50 items, but at least its not agonizing when its wrecked, or lost.

The problem isn't the guy who owns it having nice stuff, its that most people nowadays have forgotten that etiquette requires you treat other's stuff much better than your own.

Keep looking for it, I have found knifes well after I have written them off. That being said not everyone can use my pocket knife. I will normally just cut it for them and call it a day. Life is loss so start the hunt for its replacement.

Well, I went back to the place where the truck was parked to look again and didn't find it. I am definitely not giving up yet. As for asking him to replace it, I just can't bring myself to do it. He doesn't make much as it is, and was very apologetic. I didn't even tell him how much I paid for it. If it doesn't turn up I will just have to save up some money and hopefully find a good deal on another.

Next time I have another $300 knife in my pocket I will definitely have a $10 boxcutter to compliment it. It feels surprisingly good to be able to toss a knife at someone without worry for the condition of the edge or the knife as a whole.
