mblackfu - where are you in Kentucky?

I travel about two hours and fifteen minutes to get to Grove City Karate (Grove City, Ohio). I've traveled 4 hours to get to TDI Ohio from where I'm at. It might be worth a trip north to visit during one of the Saturday sessions.

I'd recommend buying MBC Volume 1, the enhanced version and drill the material before hand though.

JUNGMAN---- I am in Lexington... I am going to go to the next nearest class if i can fit into my schedule ( i work 40+ hours a week and i am a full time student)...I am a BIG Janich and MBC fan and i gotta go before i die... It is on my bucket list

  4. I've seen a lot of Mike Janich but have yet to train with him. I've seen him on The Best Defense. I've seen him in videos and on different websites.

The reason why i like Mike is because it's very difficult to cross over like he has. The gun crowd generally doesn't like a lot of the empty-hand / martial arts / knife crowd. They, like some of the comments above, are very skeptical of the techniques working. But Mike and his system has gain the confidence of a lot of respected self defense instructors around the world.

I train Kali under Ron Balicki in Inosanto Kali. I teach Kali. And everything I've ever seen Mike teach makes total sense. Everything I've ever seen him do with a knife in his hand is good solid techniques or variations of techniques that I've seen work in many places. His Kali and his FMA-influenced weapon and empty hand techniques are grounded in good, solid teaching.

So. Just wanted to support the thread concerning bio-mechanical cutting instead of stabbing if the opportunity presents itself. That it is possible to survive the first initial contact, draw your own knife and attempt to solve the problem. That drills are important, sparring is a great way to test yourself and, I believe, Kali to be one of the premier knife / blade arts on the planet. But, I'm biased, of course.

windycitykali - Keith Jennings (from the counter blade concepts video) is a fully certified instructor and is now in Chicago. I believe he's at Lakeview athletc club. I know he's done a private session recently for a martial art instructor out of Michigan recently. Keith was at Grove City Karate when Janich did his seminar. He kind of just showed up, and there was no announcement. We had quite a few instructor class folks there, but none of them really announced their presence. They were kind of easy to pick out though because of their skill.

I will second the vote on training with Keith Jennings. I've had a number of opportunities to train with him and even participated in his certification testing in Colorado. He is an excellent instructor and practicioner.
