I vote for a fixed blade. Nothing opens faster than something that doesn't close in the first place.

I used to own a Tasman, with a rivercity neck sheath and man I could pull that knife out of that sheath and have it open in a split second. I am sure any Spydie with the proper technique can be opened fast. Just my $.02

In all seriousness. The fastest deploying folders I own have an Emerson wave on them. It's pretty much open the same instant it leaves your pocket.

They can be a tad intimidating if you open them that way though.

Exactly. Aside from a wave feature, nothing beats a good middle finger flick with a compression lock.

In my Spyderco family, my Yojimbo 2 rockets out faster because the blade it heavier.. Over all my Emerson Desert Roadhouse could not be physically any faster to deploy.

We're talking less than miliseconds; infinitesimal amounts not even worth mentioning in my opinion..

I can understand discussing "ease of opening" (due to a nice stiff detent), but speed? They're ALL fast!
Am I missing something here because I sure dont understand
I just went through all my Spydies and tested the opening speed of each one. I can't think of one situation where the difference in speed between the fastest and slowest would have any impact...
