This is what I EDC everywhere I go. It packs into Equinox Marsupial and Puffer Sil-Nyl pouches and a North Face Sil-Nyl ultra-light sling bag with a Domke mailman shoulder pad. The bag with everything inside it only weighs 38 oz (with plenty of room to spare), and I carry this every day, all day long. With the rain hat and poncho, I fear no weather. With the wet naps and sanitizer, I fear no public toilet.

Nice job! Talk about bang for your buck- or maybe, bang for your pound?

    Sony dictaphone
    Sansa Clip+ MP3 player
    Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone
    Suunto compass

Does your phone not play MP3s and does it not have a "memo recorder" ap? I L O V E love the iPhone Dragon Dictation ap. The iPhone also has a compass which, while not, perhaps, in the same league as the Suunto, will do in a pinch... not to mention GPS, mapping, and turn-by-turn road directions.

    Ibuprofin
    Aspirin

That seems a bit "belt-and-suspenders" to me. Yes, I know that each is more-effective for some things than the other and each has contraindications. But for immediate relief or minor aches and pains, headaches, etc., either will work and will tide you over until you can get to a drug store and get a bottle of whichever you prefer.

    Federal gov’t standard note pad
    Small notepad

Not to mention that you can take or dictate notes with a good cellphone these days, those two seem redundant.

There seems to me to be a lot of redundancy in that.

My phone does all that, but it's a "Jack of all trades, master of none." . The dedicated devices just work better and are more reliable. I use my dictaphone all the time, and sometimes I need to use it one-handed, without looking, with the ability to be recording in 1 second. I travel internationally a lot, and the dedicated compass is indispensable in foreign cities when I don't know if I'm going in the wrong direction. My MP3 player is running Rockbox and has 32gb of music on it.

But besides the dedicated devices working better (and being fairly light and compact), if my phone died, I'd be without a compass (and dictaphone, and MP3 player).

That makes sense. Aspirin is gone.

No way I'm getting rid of pen and paper, but I agree that 2 notebooks is redundant. Larger notebook is gone.

They all are wipes, but they all wipe different stuff. Zeiss and Spudz are for glasses/sunglasses. alcohol pads are for wounds. Microfiber cloth is for mirror and camera lenses. Wet Naps are for... err... me.

EDIT: Thank you for looking at my EDC with a critical eye. It helps me improve.

Nice choice on the headphones. Shure also makes a handsfree extension with a mic and multi-click button: control your MP3 player, begin and ends calls, record voice memos, etc. I don't think it's a noise-canceling mic, but it comes close.

The only other suggestion I can think of is swapping a few of the mini tools for a larger multitool, but I really can't talk:

...No real planning here. Just all stuff that's come in handy at work enough times to earn a spot in the EDC bag. Yours seems a LOT more portable, mine spends most of its time strapped to my passenger seat as an extra cupholder. :P

Now, to find myself a multi-tool that accepts the bits I need, and has a pair of wire-stripping pliers...
