    Two From Flayderman's Book

    Here are two more inspired by Flayderman's Bowie Book. The first is a Rodgers & Sons--circa 1860-1880. It has a 10" blade & 15" OAL. Rodgers & Sons had a distinctive handle profile & usually used either ivory, stag or rosewood for the scales. For this one I chose the rosewood with 416 in place of the traditional N/S for the fittings.



    This one is based on a William Butcher knife--circa 1830-1837. It has a 9" blade with his typical "belly" & Spanish notch. I used blackwood for his usual flared octagonal handle and 416 for the eschutcheon & fittings.

    Very nice work Gary. Love them both. Shoot by the time the Hammer In and show rolls around you will have most of the book re-produced. Really nice job on the two.

    Thanks everyone. I don't know why but I often get in a groove of doing one type of knife for a while and recently it has been recreations of old Bowies. I'm glad that you liked them. In doing projects like what was made 150 years ago, you always learn some new techniques. Now I just need to get busy & build the metal tip sheaths to go along with the knives.

    Brion-- I have a couple more in the works. Let's hope that there is a market for recreations.
