Mt Adams, WA Climb

Hi all, Just got back from climbing Mt Adams' south spur, Trail Number 183. First we had to get our Volcano pass from the NF Ranger Station in Trout Lake, WA.


Then off to the mountain!!


At the trail head, we begin our trek. It's beautiful and hot at 5000 feet.




Climbing higher and making progress..

Could see Mt Hood in the distance.


Finally hit patches of snow around 6400 feet.



All I brought was the "lowly" Swiss Army Knife!

Suns going down so we stopped at 8000 feet.

Next morning, we started at 0500. The snow pack was all ice and the temp was hovering around 35 degrees. Awesome weather!!

Finally at Piker's Peak.



Almost there..


At the top at last! We had perfect weather; crystal clear and not very windy. It was a balmy 46 degrees! You could clearly see Rainer, Hood, and St Helens. It was an eagles nest from which you could see Oregon and Washington. Awesome.




Coming down, we glissaded where we could. What took us 5 hours to climb too us 1 hour to decent.

Thanks all. That was the tallest mountain I've ever climbed yet and one of the most satisfying overnighters. I hope to hike Rainier soon!

Did you guys have to tye off to one another at all? Looks awesome.

Nope. The lack of air at alt makes you work for every step but its not a technical climb. It was physically demanding but nothing vertical that required belay's or harnesses.
