Wondering if anyone could confirm the period R S Aragorn of the historic Aragorn family in Oaxaca Mexico produced his Bowie knives. I have read the complete article on the family
in Blade April 1985 where he is mentioned several times and his Bowies illustrated but cannot see a timeline on his work.
    Any help on this appreciated.

    1. Do the resources exist for establishing such a timeline? In the US we have annual business and city directories, plus the census every decade. Are there comparable records in Mexico, particularly out in the provinces? Did they ever exist? Did they survive the various revolutions, foreign wars, civil wars there?

    2. Has anybody delved into those resources... IF they exist?

I know a couple of collectors of antique Mexican bowies, but I don't know how much documentation they have. Both are more interested in the knives than in their history.

    BRL...

Thankyou for reply..I felt that some of his Bowies were maybe dated like other Aragon blades. If there is one out there maybe they could
    kindly advise.

May not be what you are looking for but I can tell you the shop is still open in Oaxaca and they still sell locally made Bowies. I've been there. They even had the Blade article on display.

Many thanks for reply SG. Ironically I was in Oaxaca 2 years ago visiting Monte Alban which is a long way from Australia but at the time had no interest in Mexican blades. I ended up with a R S Aragon bowie in the collection but knew nothing about the Aragon family till I did a bit of research. Getting a date on this maker as Mr Leviine illustrates is sure a tough one.
    Thanks again

Found this, you may have found it. http://www.oaxacainfo.com/more-about...-metalwork.htm

Here's another site that mentions that Casa Aragon had closed down in 2009.http://suite101.com/article/oaxaca-k...elight-a181323

I would have been there around 2005 I guess so I just assumed they were still open.

Thanks again for that information Pipeman I guess a sign of the times. Sad to see a maker with their history fold.
Still I guess the blades live on.
    Best Regards
