I carry mine in my right rear pocket next to my wallet, which keeps the trapper vertical. Works well.
Does anyone have a good way to carry a 4'' folder, in pocket, with out having an awkward horizontal bar across your leg?

A leather sheath.
Works in my shorts (Hawaii in summertime, shorts are par for the course!), which are usually Dickies or Quiksilvers. I don't like watchpocket carry myself because it digs into my leg when I move or bend.
I carry large knives, and it doesn't seem to be an issue for me... I don't generally carry anything in the pocket with my knife. It doesn't fall over if I just stand it up on end, in the long corner of the pocket (if that makes sense....). In my back pocket, I'll either slip it in next to my wallet, or else use a bandana in place of the wallet. This keeps it vertical as well.
You just gotta get used to it, I guess.![]()

Always looking for Italian stilettos. Send me a PM if you've got one that needs a new home!
if you are handy with needle and thread sew in a short sub pocket. Does'nt need to be 4 in. just a little over half the knife length will do.
I'll carry a 4" to 4 1/4' slip joint (my standard carry) in a front pocket all day long and on a rare occasion I'll back pocket (next to wallet) a 4 1/4 trapper to keep down the knife fights down with the stockman in the front pocket. Back pocket carry is mostly reserved for 4 1/2 XL Trapper like the GEC 23 to 5 1/4 folding hunters.
Some days there isn't enough room to carry what you like.![]()

I carry a 4 1/8" trapper in a sheath or in a front pocket. I've never had much of a problem with it going sideways in my pocket.

I wouldn't be opposed to carrying a knife that large if I needed it, but it would have to be in a sheath.
You do great work, Robin!
Whats wrong with it laying horizontal in your pocket?

Looking for a good conditioned TL-29, wooden scales with no factory bail(no lock preferred either). PM or Email me if you have one for sale, thanks.
I use a Sack-Up pouch which does a pretty good job of keeping the knife vertical. I also keep a few dollar bills folded in half next to the pouch to help keep it upright. This works pretty well as long as the pocket isn't too roomy.
I've carried 4-1/8" trappers (single blades lately) in right front pocket off and on for 30 years. Usually have one in my back pocket too. I am really starting to like a 3.5 - 3.75" serpentine frame though.
