Unhappy Buying automatic knives/switchblades in Australia?

Hey everyone, just signed up on this forum as I've been collecting knives for a while now & thought it'd be nice to find other people that are interested in the same thing.

In Australia our weapon laws are quite shit, and we can't have flick knives, automatic knives, balisongs, etc.. BUT I would really love to have one of each for my collection.

Is there any way of buying them over here? I heard that I could get a prohibited weapons permit, but I'm not quite sure how to go about doing that.

    Cheers!

pretty much bucklys chance now mate, I haven't heard of any collectors permits being approved since last December when they cracked down. Automatics have been a no no for pretty much ever.

some people ship them there any way or so I have been told. because of there laws and some other countries laws I just stop shipping overseas. I wish you the best of luck. have you ever heard of the magic knife kit?? It is a Italian switchblade that comes in peaces so it is by law not a knife. once you put it together it becomes a switchblade. you might try to look for that one for a start.

I'm fairly certain that US federal law prohibits international shipping of automatic knife kits, with or without the spring. Also, the rules of this forum strictly forbid the discussion of circumventing the law. If the OP wants to go about procuring an auto legally with some sort of license, that's one thing but I'd tread lightly when it comes to offering advice on illegal exportation or importation.
I'm not being a know-it-all, just keeping BF's potential legal costs in mind.

a major knife supplier is the one that did the importing. I do not believe they would break any laws to do that. I have since found some other companies that are importing the same kits. if this is breaking the law like you said it was then why are they allowing it to happen on a daily basic?? After spiderco with the butterflies knifes I don’t think they would let somebody else break the same law that they did.

Just because some companies are getting away with it doesn't make it legal.

And this is why I refuse to sell or ship to anyone out side of the USA. some people say it is illegal some people tell me it is legal. they only way you are going to know for sure is getting a lawyer and that is going to cost you so it just is not worth it. I have lost a bunch of sales over this.

As we don't discuss illegalities or way to controvert the law or the spririt of the law.
