Any have the Boker Plus Classic Bushcraft knife yet?

I've been watching this knife for a while and nearly everything about it has come across as positive from those that have received them. Sure there have been mumbles speculating on the stainless, and one guy didn't seem best pleased with the handle 'cos he couldn't ascertain what kind of wood it was [FS]. Apart from bigots and idiots it seems very well received so far. It's one of two of that design in that price bracket I've been watching. The other is from a different company and in O2. I don't like Scandis but I've got to say I've been secretly rooting for it.

I'm not a huge Ray Mears fan but I hop he sues their asses off because that's an exact copy of the Woodlore knife. When they made their own, at least Spyderco did an original design.

He better get his people after it then. There are a ton of Woodlore clones out there, production and custom, it seems like they are everywhere now.

Yep, but none of them had pushed the similarity so far, at least for production.

Stainless generally comes with large carbides and higher brittelness which particularly show in thin edges.
You may want to under harden them but then you get rolling.

Also more/larger carbides means higher wear resistance which is less then optimal when sharpening large bevels.

If you want a "scandi" edge, fine carbide steels like 12C27 are probably a better call.

I got it today but never had a chance to play with it or take pictures.

My first impression isn't good and I think I'm going to return it.

Shipped it back for refund. They sold out of their first shipment so exchange wasn't an option.

The grind was not symmetrical, the edge was off center and it wasn't straight...it curved or snaked along the edge. I don't know if I got a lemon or if this is what to be expected.

Aside from the quality control issues I really like the knife. The handle filled my hand and overall it had a nice heft to it. I would definitely like to try another one.

I had considered ordering this knife yesterday but since changed my mind.
I have serious doubts about this knife and it's MIC origin. It may look ok on websites , but I bet if I got one in my hand I'd regret that 440C ? blade and possibly Micarta scales that are not epoxied to the tang leading to long term handle looseness or failure.
The grind looks very obtuse also. I'm saving my $50 towards something better I think.

I was curious whether the problem was rubbish build quality or just that those sorts of knives are not for you. There are loads of pics in this thread, and whilst deficiencies are obvious they don't look as bad as some that I've seen from for example Bark River. And considering it's down the Condor end at 40 odd quid it didn't look so bad at all as far as fit and finish goes. mmmmmmm

The handle didn't comcern me and for the price it looked Ok to me. My issue was the blade grind. If you were to lay the scandi grind flat onto a stone it would have high and low spots. That's what I mean when I said the it has curves or a snakey edge.

I really like the knife and after handling it I know I want a knife of this type even more. I checked the Adventure Sworn website just to see if I could get on a list but as of yet they are still not accepting new orders. $245 is a bit steep but I know I'd be completely satisfied with the quality so I'd do it. This boker was supposed to be something to hold me over until I find a real McCoy, oh well!

I don't know enough about these so research might show them to be complete boswellox, or they could be giant slayers: Anyway, I'm wondering if you have Casstrom distribution over there because a Casstrom #10 might hold you for a bit.

As a gist, they present like this, but they come in a bunch of different handle materials, or as blanks.

I agree with these views. The way this knife is endlessly copied reminds me of all the Jimmy Lile clones in the 80's, when a "survival knife" had to have saw-teeth. At least most of those didn't just copy the knife. These are just examples of unimaginative manufacturers churning out copied designs to suit this year's fashion.

Because Ray says it doesn't have a heart! (http://www.alanwoodknives.com/the-wo...ife-story.html) While I have some sympathy with that view, these copies are carbon steel for the same reason they're scandi ground, and all the rest of it, because they're COPIES, and because that's what you need if you're going to be a proper bushcrafter.

It's not an exact copy and I don't believe it hurts his product. The Ray Mears knife is much higher quality and has a coke bottle shaped handle there is no confusion for which is the genuine item.

I can tell you that after handling this boker I want the original even more.
