K9-H makes a good point. I had a single six that was scoped with a 9in. Barrel. It was a real tack driver. And there's just something cool about the ckilcking noises it makes when you pull back the hammer. Another cool feature is that on the older ones anyway you could buy a .22 magnum cylinder and swap them out. I don't know about the newer ones though.

Took the boy to the gun range yesterday afternoon for awhile. Didn't stay too terrible long, but he was showing me up anyways, so it was time to leave before I had to ground him.

(Yes the target is upside down, the guy has low ceilings and didn't want people shooting it up doing headshots. And as Sam always said, crotch is a heck of a good place to aim.)

The Single Six with 22 and 22wmr cylinders is on my bucket list. However, I've been looking for a semi-auto 22 pistol and recently tried out the Beretta Neos, S&W 22a, Ruger 22/45, and Browning Buckmark. Of those, the Buckmark was by far my favorite for ergonomics, function, and accuracy.

I got my twin-cylinder Single Six in 1971, right after I got discharged from the Army. It sits in a drawer next to the box Ruger sent me to "update" the action from the 5-click to the 3-click version free of charge. But like TMHunt says, there's really something about that cacophony of clicks when you bring back the hammer that harkens back to the Old West, and I'm not sure I want to see that go away, even if it's for free.
When my wife got (briefly) into Cowboy Action shooting, I picked her up a matching pair of Single Sixes with birdshead grips in .32 H&R Mag. Prior to shopping for those, I never knew they were available in anything other than .22. It's a real centerfire example considered by most to be a real self-defense round, but the gun is still LOTS smaller and lighter than even the .38/.357 Ruger Vaquero. Not as cheap to shoot as a .22, but that's why you reload!

I see examples of the twin-cylinder SS in the used display cases of almost every gunshop I go into. Folks are quick to use them to trade up to something bigger when the time comes. Really cheap way to get into shooting handguns.

Now I don't know about you, but if your like me, I don't trust ANY gun with a cocked hammer and one in the pipe. So I never use that option on any gun. But Ruger didn't want to tell you that. Nor do they want to tell you that the free conversion does negatively effect the value of your beloved 5 clicker.

Yeah, I know Ruger wouldn't make a free upgrade for the hell of it. I'm sure the attornies told them to do it -- or it was the result of a lawsuit. I just fantasize about being a cowboy and always have an empty hole under the hammer/firing pin.

I have a Ruger Mark 1 from the 60's its a great pistol. It is a bear to take apart and clean so I dont do it that much. For a more modern pistol I have friends with the Walther P22 it is a great gun as well. However my all time favorite .22 is the Smith and Wesson model 17 4 inch.

Politics are like teenage and adult physical temptations: The only "safe" way to have them in your personal life is to abstain from them altogether....

On a side note, I've got a shiny black snake, about 2-3" round, more than 18" long, still have yet to see the head, running around the house. Based on my extensive experience in the outdoors and a little bit of ingenuity (interwebz) I have come to the conclusion that it is probably not venomous, leaving only 2 species in the south east that match it's description, Black Racer and Black Rat Snake. Black Rat Snakes are rare at best in Central Florida (the sub-species that take the Black Rats place are Yellow Rats), so while it's probably not nearly as aggressive, it likes to run, and at the moment my house looks like hurricane "little brother" came through, and I mean he literally tore the place up when he heard me say I saw it...

So here's the question for the snake wranglers on the forum: while still being cautious, but not wanting to call animal control/county sheriff, what is the best way to catch this guy and harmlessly (to both me and him) release him?

Get a stick and press it down behind its head and pick it up. If it is a black racer they can fan their neck like a cobra it's pretty neat.
