Are you going to strip your 1311?

Reading the stripper thread a minute ago got me thinking about whether i should strip and polish my 1311 when i get it.

is it possible to do on a knife with a Res C handle?

they strip res-c at the yard all the time. I usually leave to ricasso coated and strip from the plunge line to the tip. I might only strip the primary gring on this one. If you strip above that, you have to take a lot of metal off to get the pits out, and that takes FOREVER for SR101 without power tools. INFI takes a while to do by hand, but SR101 takes about 3 times as long

Res-c is resistant to every stripper I have used, unlike Kraton. It has melted with a few brands of stripper.

As far as satinizing, you do have to be very careful near the ricasso(obviously) because of the Res-c.

Yup. Lots have. Sr101 is decently rust aggressive, as are most carbon steels (I know Sr101 is not simple carbon steel), as long as you can take care of it. I love a patina'ed blade my self!

I think I would do a forced boiled vinegar patina if I had one, and stripped it.

I still have not convinced my self I have the money to do it. I would have to sell one of my Busse to get the funding lined up. I have a few other knives but would have to sell more than three.

I prefer to just renwax mine. they clean up so easy and stay shiny.

I'm not. I have a stripped rodent solution that was done by norcal black tail and it is a freaking LASER... So sharp it splits split hairs. But cut a lemon and some raw meat and it will slightly stain. Looks good that way actually. Dang that SR101 is some hard steel! But I think I'm gonna leave this one with the coating and beat the HELL out of it. Its thin enough. Looking forward to seeing the rest of ya'lls stripped 1311's though!

ya know, now that i'm thinking about it, stripping the SR101 may not be the best idea. For some reason, i was thinking of the rust resistance of INFI, but SR101 doesn't come close in that category..

I like to strip smaller knives(slicers). Foe this type of knife...the benefit of the coating out weighs the benefit of stripping. Sr101 does rust VERY easy...the powder coat is nice in a field chopper of sr101. I would beat it until/if you decide the worn coating is fugly then strip the grind portion, leave the Ricasso and spine flats... Just my 2 cents

Maybe. Only if I get a belt grinder and practice putting satin finishes and nasty convex edges on more expendable knives.

its not that hard to get a functional satin on the primary grind by hand. The pitted flats are a ton more work

I like a coating on rust-prone blades, makes them less prone to rust.

With the humidity of the jungle environment I'll be living in for the next year and a half, I'm definitely leaving my coating on...at least until I've worn through most of it bashing around my new local wilderness

I think the 1311 will be PERFECT for my new surroundings!
