Apparently the author self published because it was not attractive to a commercial publisher. They are 30 Pound and they post to the world from the LULU web site http://www.lulu.com/shop/geoffrey-tw...-13628639.html

Does this include the info from the earlier Tweedale Sheffield knife book or is it all completely new material?

The first one hundred and fifty pages, i.e.50% of the S.K.B, examined the historical background of Sheffield knives and dealt with processes, styles and patterns of knife manufacture. The new book is intended primarily as a Directory as we can gather from its title, and only the first 44 pages deal in general terms about the cutlery industry: the rest is an A - Z of manufacturers and others in association.

In addition to the 100 or so company profiles listed in the S.K.B, there are a further 800 - a mass of new material by any standard. In fact one member has said that at £30 he has now in effect been able to get his hands on the original Sheffield Knife Book for nothing.

I'll advise G.T. of your 'relevant folk' suggestion Robin.

Lulu was the first outfit to offer book self-publishing via print on demand and online sales.

Initially they would not do illustrated books (I wanted to do some catalog reprints that way, but got turned down). Not enough bandwidth on their coal-fired chain-drive servers.

Also initially they sold via Amazon.

BUT THEN... (the plot thickens) Amazon decided to offer book self-publishing via print on demand and online sales. And began excluding competing products from their site -- so the only time you'll see a Lulu book there now, is used from a reseller.

I thought this would kill Lulu (so did Amazon) but Lulu's founder has deep pockets, and pulled it through.
