The BK2 would defentily handle it but I wouldn't worry about it breaking, I would be worried that it would slip out! Having said that I bet the BK2 could hold my truck off a cliff!

And thats why climbing areas get closed. Funny photo, but I have to wonder what was going on! maybe some sort of climbing challenge, or someones method for adding a shock absorber? Either way, thats a fair few $$$ of gear to leave at the top of a climb, must be a temp anchor of sorts.

Doesn't seem like there's weight on the ropes since there's no tension, worst case scenario is the blade slipping out of the tree cause it looks like it was jabbed into between the bark and the trunk.

If they tried it they had a safety rope, so no big deal probably a fellow knife nut doing something silly like we do. I agree that its not cool to stab a tree for no reason.

Ya, if you hang a 550 pound weight on a rope that's tested for 550 pounds it's most likely fine, but if you lift that same weight a few feet and let it drop, SNAP!
I wouldn't want anyone to do this but I would like to see it done with a crash test dummy just for giggles. Maybe we can get it on TV! Free advertising anyone?

I seen it on Facebook as well. Its a new knife maker that thought this would be a neat idea to test one of his knife blanks.

Its good marketing if you ask me. It may be crazy and stupid, but it gets people talking about it and linking to his website.

Holy Shit! Well, first off I'm "the idiot" who did this. lol I'm thinking a BK 2 might be able to do this but would you trust a BK16? THAT is the size of the knife I'm using. The knife in question is my SURVIVE! EDC-4 model, made in CPM-3V. Is has an overall length of 9", with a 4.25" blade, that is 5/32" thick. Yes, it is .156" thick! The tree was a standing dead, that had not yet begun to rot. The knife was removed using a hammer to free it up a bit, then by rocking it back and forth a bunch of times to get it to release. I was making two points with this video. #1 I REALLY trust my knives and #2 by using better materials, a blade doesn't need to be a prybar to be strong. In my opinion mission accomplished.

And for the people screaming "STUPID", I had the line backed up in case of failure. I am a little crazy, I'll give you that but not stupid.

The pull up test was actually harder on the blade than the climbing anchor test. The blade came right back to center after using it like a climbing anchor but I had to tweak it just a little to straighten it after the pull ups. Even I was really impressed. Especially taking into account I left the handles off, which would have increased the knife's strength. I have a 5" model releasing in a few weeks, closer to a BK2 sized knife. My only question now is, how in the hell do I top what I just did? Things are going to get really crazy...

On a more serious side note. I do not suggest or encourage any of the crazy stuff I do. In fact I enthusiastically discourage you. I perform these tests so you can use your SURVIVE! knife with confidence, knowing that the crazy owner at SURVIVE! trusts them enough to dangle off a 50 foot cliff, using a thin(.156"), sideloaded knife as a climbing anchor.

actually, polish mountaineers are among the most respected and accomplished folks among the tight circle of that crowd, dating way back to early years...scaling the toughest peaks in hardest conditions on an inferior budget and using superior ingenuity.... dude, epic fail at cheap humor...
but it's easy to use the crowd favorite old standbys hehe... would you have the nerve to use jewish or black instead??... but that could get ya banned or earn an infraction at best for un-pc conduct or some crap....
