PineMartyn just came up with an easy to do outdoor toilette seat that is worth the view:

I've wiped with a few different types of leaves and I still say TP feels about the best.

Good idea. I might just make me a cheekspreader.

I don't like the fern idea for wiping though. It would be more like a paintbrush. I prefer the relative accuracy of toilet tissue or maybe a soft leaf like mullein.

Down here in my part of the world, the guys would have to sit the cheekspreader a much higher distance off the ground to stop the family jewels dragging on the forest floor

Tell me about it... I have been stuck in Cairo for five months already!

Call me spoiled, but I avoid dipping my hands in feces as often as possible. I believe they have newspapers in Cairo? Cheap cotton cloth?

LOL. Yes, we do have TP but I never leave without a package (or two) of Clenex. In most of the restaurants we go, they do have TP. What all toilets have in common here is a valve just by the toilet which open and closes a stream of water... comming from the inside of the toilet straight to your arse! Interesting.

Anyway, we do was our hands carefully anyway.

Here is common to use holes (away from water sources) that are closed after the camp ends.
