    Case Kodiak Hunter

Do you guys think the case kodiak hunter would be a very good user knife or is it more of a display knife. I m looking for a good knife to use out in the woods and i want something that can take a lot of use and last for years. I really like the way it looks but the price is kind of high.

Should be just fine for use. Just don't baton with it and you'll be fine.

It would make a great user IMO. I use a case bowie sometimes, case has their fixed blades down pat.

I have the Colt 1911 Anniversary of the Case Kodiak. The blade is razor sharp, has excellent balance and appears to be very well made. It has a very solid feel in the hand and I think the size is absolutely perfect. I would suspect that it would excel as a working knife.

Yeah, Im sure it would be a pretty good working knife, the main concern I have is the brass guard. It looks like it might get in the way if i was doing some smaller jobs like carving or whittling.

Not likely to interfere if you ask me. It's VERY rare that a guard actually gets in the way, in my experience.

I just took apart a snapping turtle the other day, and my buddy was using one to process his portion of the meat. Great blade. No guard. It would have got in the way.

A US-made Buck 110 - available at sporting goods stores - and even from most WallyWorlds - will be very similar in size. It'll be plain looking - unless you find a 110BR - but that one will still be less than half the cost of the Case knife you mentioned. Basically the same Bowie-style 6" blade of 420HC SS with a guard and pommel. Canadian Les Stroud, from Discovery Channel's 'Survivorman' series, used one on a couple of shows. My 110BR is in a display stand - the 110 plain Jane is in the kitchen drawer - my butcher knife!
