    I bought three(3) and don't own one(1) that's a riddle.

I like them very much and I was a "pen guy" before knives, guns, audio or cars. So.... I think that says something.
I like the heavier grade Investigator Pens (SS, Brass, etc) the Aluminum are just as nice in every way just much lighter, so factor that in.
I have such confidence in Hinderer products that I say this from time to time to show I am willing to back my opinions - Buy it and if you don't like it PM me and I will buy it from you for what you paid (no loss to you, no risk)
Have not had anyone take me up on it yet
As for first impressions, they are on the small ish size but, for an EDC the size is nice and I say what I say about the XM18 3" - give it a week or two in the pocket before you finalize opinion.
    Nice pen

The Investigator is a great pen at a great price. I was into pens before I got into knives, and this pen offers exceptional quality and value. There are so many much more expensive pens that don't use anywhere near the quality, long lasting and tough materials that the Investigator does. It is as close to a "no-brainer" as it gets, IMO.

As for the "cool", fiddle, admire and play with it factor, I mess with mine a lot. And I don't seem to tire of it. I have owned the aluminum and the stainless steel, and I prefer the heft and quality feel of the stainless much more. I imagine that the brass and copper ones would feel much the same. If lighter weight is a factor for you, you would probably prefer the aluminum.

Good luck with your decision, and let us know what you decide. For what it is worth, I vote Investigator.

Thanks. I'm now wondering if I should go ahead and finally throw down some money on a quality knife sharpener, but as I get more and more expensive knives I'm worried my less than ideal skills may do more harm than good, so I still may go with the hinderer pen or Brous neck knife. I like the Brous for a last ditch self defense as well as a nice knife to carry around the neck when doing rifle drills so it doesn't get crap all in it like my knives in the pocket tend to do, but the pen seems like a nice investment overall. Also, as a completely unrelated questions, do any of you keep non-firearms in your car for self defense, and if so, what kind?

Wicked Edge (WEPS) is the sharpener to have takes the "skill" factor out of the equation.
I carry a Springfield Armory Semi-auto 9mm and a S&W .357 magnaum revolver in my rig BUT in my wifes has a Kimber non-lethal.
I don't want her shooting me

You speaking to the Kimber pepper spray with force? Very good option when firearms are not an option.

If I could not carry a firearm, I'd seriously consider the Taser X26 or X26c.

Yes. I swear by Kimber products....they are kindred spirits to a Hinderer IMO.

Mission oriented in design and hand made in America. Good stuff

Never knew Kimber made pepper spray. But yeah, I've never held a Hinderer, but I want one BAD. I've been trying to trade my way up to an XM-18 3.5" spanto, but now I have to start from scratch since I like this Strider so dang much. I figured buying the pen would be a nice addition into the Hinderer family.

Wait until you Hold one It's all different after that.

I'm afraid to, since it looks to be perfect, haha. Luckily I've never been to a big knife show so I've never felt that "I have no choice but to sell my soul for this" urge. Also, I had been told that Hinderer warrantied their knives even under what most would consider "abuse", but upon looking on their website it seems pretty much the same as Sebenza or Strider's warranty.

Not really, the subtle distinctions in verbage translate to much Larger differences in "real life" No need to go into it here but rest assured - the Hinderer Warranty backs the Best knife and is backed by the Best in the Business. Taking nothing away from anyone - just is what it is.

Ok-getting off topic here but you (OP) started it! If you are into knives then stop buying more knives and more "stuff" and get a Wicked Edge Pro. You need to be able to sharpen your knives and the WEPS makes it easy. Really. I destroyed edges with other systems but with the WEPS I learned to get a wicked edge in just 2 days and 3 knives. Don't try and save a little $$$ and get the WEPS Field and Sport, it has an issue with small blades that the Pro does not... Now that I can finally sharpen my own knives I feel like I can really use them too. Just my 2 cents...

Isn't the WEPS rather large though? I liked the idea of the sharpmaker since it's pretty portable.

SharpMaker isn't "pretty portable" it's really portable and about $50. No comparison.
The SM is a great sharpener for what it does - maintains an edge and in its basic/OEM form does a good job.
There are add ons and they enhance capability.
The WEPS is a whole other animal.
This kind of drifted from a pen question?

The answer to that question is - Yes.

It's your thread, just wanted to make sure you got the answer - Many Positive "weigh-ins" on the pen and much more Hinderer and then the Bonus info.
    It's all good.

Gotcha. Well, I do want the Hinderer pen. I think if I can afford the Brous I'll go for that first though. It just looks great and seems like it'd be a nice thing to have.

Interesting aside...I am flying to Jersey City today, I'm writing this on the plane courtesy of GoGo. Anyway, I forgot to take my Investigator Pen out of my pocket prior to going through security. Fortunately I did not go through the X-ray scanner I went through the normal metal detector. The pen did NOT set off the detector. I didn't realize that until just now...

I had an aluminum one clipped into the cargo pocket of my shorts when I recently flew. Went into the fancy sniffer/scanner whirlydo....forgot to remove the pen. I guess my damn pants falling down (since they had my belt) had my mind occupied.

Scanner found it, TSA asked "what's that?". My reply...oops, guess I forgot to remove my pen.

    And that was that...redressed, boarded...flew..
