This net is based on cod nets once used in the Northwest US by Native Americans.
The wood is a fast growing weed tree (I believe sumac) that I debarked and bent without steaming.
The frame is 12" x 8". I made the net from linen twine, 20" deep.

hey Tony, thought I'd come and keep you company. The small crossbar is the handle and it's used by putting your hand between the handle and the crossing point of the hoop and grabbing the handle palm up - this gives you control of the net.
I just want to mention that net making can be a very rewarding and versatile skill and it's not that hard to learn.
A couple more examples:
A cell mate
A bottle bag.
Snapping Turtle trap
Not to mention gill nets, dip nets, drop nets, etc.

That is awesome you guys. Nets really a great way to catch fish. a few years back I made a home made net using willow spalings
for making the hoops and the sides and some 550 cord to tie is together and cat tail leaves for filling in the spaces.
It was a fun project. Your nets look way better than mine fish trap looked.
Great job guys
Nice nets!!![]()
