From my life, I have been screwed by my family about money so many times, my Mom sounds alot like your Mom and to be honest my Mom would take money from me alot, then she came into alot of money about $200,000 dollars and well she never tried to give me a penny, I still love her and talk with her but no more money, and she also used my identity to get a loan in my name. I have a brother that is just as bad so well not telling you what to do but go with your gut feeling and remember the U.S Army still wants higly educated people and they have the student loan repayment program.

No, you aren't a bank, simple as that. They should get a loan or should have saved up more. Sounds like you have living in your means and saving down pretty well.
