Thread: When you whip it out, do kids run and hide, women faint and grown men cringe?

Yes. I usually EDC (when the situation allows) a SOG Field pup. The Boy Scouts love hassling me about it. It is completely legal in NY, but they don't seem to care.

I only get wierd looks because i am 17 and they probably think i am planning on stabbing someone. I dont use it in front of most of the people i know because they might find it strange but as far as strangers go... i hope to broaden their point of view.

I'm self-conscious when I carry a big folder, so I try to be really discreet about it.

I just carry what I feel like as long as it's legal for me to do so where I am. If the sheeple have an anxiety attack... oh well. Of course I don't go around with my knife being obvious and easy to spot. I try to keep it low key, only pull it out if I need to use it and then put it away.

I've had bad reactions to a Vic Cadet, I can't imagine what the reactions would have been like if I used my folder.

I was pulled over once with gerber 06 auto on me. Of course he wanted to know where he could get one. I would be a little cautious if I seen Charlie sheen wielding a samurai sword and talking about tiger blood though.

I've been carrying a little swiss army knife for a few months now.
I don't get looks with that.
No-one has ever bothered me, even for the long stretch of time I was carrying a full-sized Grip.

Never, because when I do a normal cutting job, I never "whip it out".
I use both hands to open, and people around see I'm only using it as a tool.

Big hands ... Big folders - Benchmade Rukus and Crusader Forge Metro Tactical seem to get the most OMG looks. When the CF locks into place it sounds like a finger snap.

i need the extra handle space too. I love the handle size on the Millie, but sometimes I get strange looks and comments from people when I use it. Someone even called it a "serial killer knife", whatever that means lol. But screw them, it's legal to carry it so I do.

I carry larger folders sometimes, but I live in Texas so no one seems to care. However, I always open my knives with 2 hands in public so people don't get freaked out.

I try not to show my knife. If someone asks to use it I'll open it with 2 hands as well. I EDC a Kershaw Blur or a RAT 1. The Blur is all black, but has been EDCed for a few years and isn't too intimidating. The RAT 1 on the other hand is much bigger and looks "scary" to people. I think it is a clean looking, plain, non-auto knife

Was told my boker pry mate was cute. I was almost offended. She did see the police 3 in the front pocket. But she wouldn't have thought that was as cute.

Still waiting for delivery of my Grayman Satu, but that could potentially raise an eyebrow or two.

I feel your pain on this one. I made the same mistake. I let a jerk check out an expensive folder of mine, (over $200 dollars is expensive to me) and he flicks it open harder than I have EVER seen a knife flicked open. I was like wow, that will never happen again. This person also thinks his $10 dollar Smith and Wesson knife is on par with a ZT301.

I'm pretty sure most boy scouts are also knife guys. I occasionally get comments from people about my knives at work, "is that allowed", "thats a big knife", "be careful with that". I usually carry a BM 915 in orange and satin. Technically I guess its against company policy for me to be carrying and using it (or any non-company issued knife) but I get away with it. I use the "serious work needs serious tools", since everyone knows the company issue knives to be a joke.

No stories. I don't whip out my knife. I pull it from my pocket, open it, cut, and put it back in my pocket. Most people have no idea, others don't seem to mind in the slightest.
