First Tomahawk.

Hey guys, never posted here before, as I've not made anything that fit in here before. I've made a few false starts before and several years ago I even made a hawk like object, but being at Bowies Hammer-in recently, and seeing Alan Longmire's hawk demo got me fired up again, so a few days ago I started pounding on some steel.

15" curly maple handle.
cold blued mild steel head w/ 1084 bit.









Now I just gotta make a short sword with a blued blade and a cm handle, and my war set will be complete.

Thanks everyone. The match between my R1 and the hawk was purely coincidence. Several weeks ago I made the curly maple grips for the R1, and realized after the hawk was done, that the blued head and maple hande matched the R1 perfectly.

The blueing also was done in almost desperation. I was intending to do a forge finish, but didn't like how it looked, so I ground it smooth, but didn't like that look either. Finally I decided to try the cold blue, and loved the look. It was my goldielocks moment, "just right!"

Stuart, I hate to admit, I never have visited the KM state park, but it was a demonstrating blacksmith at Dollywood that first fired my imagination. Without demonstrators like you, the craft would be waning so much more than it is.
