Finished up this pitted Collins early this morning. Tomorrow it goes to a benefit auction. I hope it inspires some bidding, cause I kinda wanna keep it now.

The pics are kinda lame as I took them on my desk at work, but I hope you enjoy anyway!

It's full size on a 36" handle. It probably came out a hair shorter than 36, but the tape measure that is usually in my desk is MIA. Time to blame it on someone random just for fun!

Thanks, Steve. I've seen some pics of heads that were polished on top of deep pits, but this is my first go at it. It's a pretty cool look.

That thing is cool! The first pic made me think axe murderer. Fill them pits with some fake blood for Halloween or cut off some chicken heads with it and never wash it off, doh!

Matt, Your Collins double bit is stunning with the blackened pitting and a polished surface. How did you polish it and how did you get the pitting to hold a black finish?

Matt, Your Collins double bit is stunning with the blackened pitting and a polished surface. How did you polish it and how did you get the pitting to hold a black finish?

Thanks, Tom. It was pretty rusty, so I hit it with the wire cup brush. But then I decided to polish the high spots so I started with flap discs and my angle grinder followed by progressive hand sanding. The pits are deep enough that sanding didn't get to the inside. I used a sanding block to make sure I wasn't pushing the sandpaper down into the pits. It you just used your fingers you may end up pulling the patina out of pits. I hope that made adequate sense.
