Turkish knot?

I was thinking about putting this knot on a axe shaft but, couldn't figure it out. Anyone have a link or something for these types of decorative knots?

J, Over, under, over under, over under. Wait! Under over, under over, under over. I'll most likly be doing another one today and I'm sure I'll have to re teach myself.

Thanks guys. Tess will most likely being the one doing these. I'd probably tie my fingers into the knot and never get free.

Ashley's book is "the" book on classic knots.

It is interesting just to browse through--the author experienced the end of sail-powered whaling on the East coast.

As a consequence you won't find knots for for slippery synthetic cordage like monofilament.

Aside from that, if there is a knot for any purpose, it's almost certainly in that book. Everthing from how to build up complicated decorative pieces, tie hammocks, to how sailing ships handled truely huge diameter anchor and mooring lines.

At 600 pages, with several knots in each page, it is quite an amazing work.

J. the knot is fairly simple, like Ray said "over, under). The key to the knot is starting it (the loops). If the crossover isn't right the knot won't finish right.

TIP of the day....Take your blood pressure medicine before starting the knot.

One other thing...at least for me. Turks head knots are not like riding a bicycle. After I do them for a while I can almost tie them in my sleep. After a month or so, I can't tie one to save my life!

second vote for that one.

i have found that the thing that really gets confusing for me when doing large or extended turks head knots, is when i let the tops and bottoms of the knot slouch down. if i do it right, the tops and botoms are a set of perfect 90 degree angles that i weave through, so its really easy to see where and when i need to go back down. when their all slouched down, i cant even see where the weave is let alone how to continue it

from ashleys book of knots (they have 29 pages on them, 123 variations, so this is just one form)

thats the single strand weave form, using only 1 peice of rope/cord. an example of it in an extended knot -

personally, i find that the double and triple strand versions look a lot better then the single (but i never have any reason to do them enough for me to learn them )
example (single strand end turks head knot)-
