Kabar carbon or TNG?

which of the kabars is better, the carbon steel or the next generation version? mainly in points of out-of-the-box-sharpness, edge taking ind edge holding. The stainless part is not so important.

thank you

If a stainless steel isn't a major requirement, then I'd take a hard look at the Kabar Extreme in D2 steel. It's a little more expensive (Okay, a lot more expensive than the 1095 version), but I think it easily bests either in terms of performance.

I have an article done in Blade (I think) where the author took his teenage son and his son't buddy camping and put the 1095 kabar and the next gen kabar in their hands and told them to go play. The kabar got some rust on it (surprise surprise for handing a knife to a couple of young guys with orders to go play!! Cleaning would've been last on my list too!). Other than that, the carbon steel kabar outperformed the next gen. The grind is better for slicing and 1095 takes a good edge and holds it well. I'd recommend cleaning it once in a while though!! I know nothing about D2 (not enough to help you here anyways). If the D2 is way too much for you, skip the next gen and get the traditional kabar.

Hmm... traditional..... pants are pretty traditional but they work just fine!

Thank you very much. D2 is really beyond my budget, so I'll rather buy to the 1095.
