My knives in the BOB - a 7.5inch carbon steel Bowie I made myself that has too many cosmetic flaws to sell, a 4inch carbon steel drop point hunter with Micarta handles, a Cold Steel Voyager lockback, sharpening, firemaking equipment. small first aid kit, 5x plastic poncho.
Edited to add - Leatherman Wave, but its my EDC - always on my belt so technically not in the BOB.

And yes, lots of spare underwear and a roll of toilet paper ! Jason.

I use a Swiss Army laptop bag as a BOB. Sort of invisable that way to most people.
Knives in bag
Busse BM
Leatherman Supertool
Swiss Army Rucksack SAK
Lights in bag
Inova XT5
ASP Saffire attached to supertool
maglights solitare
Assorted in bag
lensatic compass
10X25 binoculars
a half dozen different forms of fire making
MREandWater bottle
spare glasses and glass cleaning and repair kit
cell phone, when not on me
notebook and assorted pens and pencils
ASP palm defender, Pepper spray on pack strap
signal mirror, wire saw, toilet paper, first aid kit, bug spray in summer, heaters in winter, bug headnet and boonie hat in summer,Mechanics gloves.
Firearms and ammo on my person unless where not allowed, then in BOB in truck.
That is the regular. More items added for specific ventures where need will dictate the carry specialities.

On me most of the time. One or two knives, light, phone, cash.Gun a fair amount of time.On my keys,Micra and photon II.

What I guess would me my bug out bag, would be my work bag,I forget the name but its made for police to carry junk in their cars.

I have in it at all times(home and work).Spare uniform, sweatshirt, extra knife, extra batteries for my work light, some first aid stuff,multi-tool,couple power bars, often a handgun.

This works well for me.As a floating TLT.I fill in at whatever firehouse needs a LT.So I'm away from my locker and need to carry spare stuff with me.Last night trick I caught overtime so I worked a night shift a day shift and the next night shift.Thats like 40 hours,so i get to see if my "stuff" is enough to let me live in comfort. Also a couple times I have had been caught in a blizzard at work and not allowed to go home, and getting out to by food was hard to do,extra clothes and power bars saved the day and night and next day....

For me and most people,I think you'll be "bugging out" to a shelter or home of a friend not building a lean-to in your favorite deer woods.

Look at the thousands of people who bug out every year in the U.S..They are most often doing so due to,hurricanes, floods.wildfires etc.and they go to a building of some sort in a safe area.

In an actual BugOut, I'd carry what I carry when backpacking, plus some. For backpacking, a small SAK w/can opener and a cheap Pukko I found somewhere for 5 bucks. BugOut would see the addition of (depending) an old USMC KaBar, or a ColdSteel Master Hunter. Plus at least a minimalist way to sharpen.

Yes, I like enormous knives, but if my situation called for a truly enormous "Rambo Knife," I'd rather have the light weight axe instead (plus the already mentioned small knives).

Not an awful lot of cutting duties around here, tho. Deep dark jungles or forests would change my picks, no doubt.

Cheers

I do not do much bugging out but I do carry a light emergency back pack and knife/Spec-Ops Survival Sheath in my truck. I also carry a stout hiking/Bo staff on the back of my truck.
If I were to go in the woods or abandon my vehicle I would take my day to day pocket items, CCW handgun, backup mag, pocket knife (Doug Ritter's RSK Mk1), cell phone, ect. that I carry all the time any way. In addition I would grab my staff, back pack, and Survival Sheath.

Spec-Ops Survival Sheath with Fallkniven A1
The sheath has a CRKT STIFF KISS with its plastic sheath laced to the back of it as an aux spear point or thin utility blade. In the sheath's pouch;
1. mylar space blanket
2. water purification tabs
3. matchsafe tube and some life boat matches.
4. 2 condoms for water containers
5. fishing kit
6. snare wire
7. wire saw
8. fire kit with mag glass, fire tool, tinder ect

I also have a small JanSport back pack that I use to carry

1. LED flashlight
2. Scorpion Streamlight
3. insect repellent
4. water
5. rations (MRE's)
6. signal mirror
7. knife sharpening kit
8. portable GPS
9. compressible compact sleeping bag
10. small mess kit
11. Integral Designs Sil Poncho that can be worn or used as a shelter
12. First aid kit

The standard kit....

I have the standard Ritter-esque (Equipped.com) stuff.

The knives I've chosen for BOB duty are a Fallkniven F1 in OS/T kydex, a Cabela's D2 551 Griptilian, and a SOG PowerPlier.

I also included a small Gerber diamond rod sharpener.

If it's a real "bug-out" situation, where I won't have time to grab the full bag, I'd have my BM 910, Inova X5T, LM Micra, Dorcy AAA, Fox-40 Whistle, rubber gloves, CPR mask, Trilene SAK knockoff and a PT Pulsar. Then, if there's time for the bag, well, it would depend on why I was bugging out and where I was going. There's different setups for different situations. .

The minimum: a gun, ammo, a knife, compass and firestarting equipment.

Everything else I need I can get with one of the previously listed items.

Just kidding.

Add to the above list medicines, firstaid kit, small altoids tin survival kit and mylar blanket.
