Exclamation Preview and Submit Post Locks up

I have attempted several times to reply to a thread in Knife Reviews & Testing specifically in this thread -

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=357720

Everytime I press either Preview Post or Submit Reply - my entire Browser (IE6) locks up on me.

I am attempting to post here and hope the problem is isolated to just that particular forum.

The Preview Post just worked here, so hopefully I can actually post the problem....

Any ideas why I am unable to post a reply to that thread?

Thanks,

Ditto, I have had this happen too; on random forums when I tried to press Submit. The last two times I tried to post an attachment my IE6 hanged and then I lost the connection with BF for about 8 mins.

Same here, sort of.

I have had several cases with a long delay after clicking the submit reply button. I think longer posts result in longer delay. More than one forum I am sure. I am only posting text. This definitely only started after the update or whatever a few days ago, maybe by chance, but that's when it started for me.

Today I got my first actual crash with IE not responding at all. That window is still frozen even as I post this, so if it shows up I have not lost my connection/session with bladeforums.

EDIT:
I am adding this after this message posted successfully, and I didn't have to log in again, so it can't be a logging out issue.

EDIT AGAIN:
just curious why the "last edited" thing never shows up on the first edit I do.

Thanks for the confirmation - I was concerned it was just me.

It has happened here in BladeForums.com Service and Support too, when I attempted to "Quote" Reply as I am doing now (earlier at about 11:15AM and then about 2:30PM).

At about 11:20AM Preview worked fine first time - then was slow on second, and then failed on Submit Reply locking my IE6 browser - then at about 2:30PM the Preview an Submits would just lock up my IE6 browser -
and the only way out was to use CTRL-ALT-Delete and end the (IE6) BladeForums task which was "Not Responding" -.

It did the same thing over in Knife Reviews & Testing earlier too when I tried "Quote" Replying again when I saw there was a new post in that forum.

Anyone figure out what's going on?

That's actually a feature -- the idea is if you just edit a typo immediately after you post it doesn't need to show it was edited.

I don't know about the browsers locking up ... hasn't happened to me....

Sounds like an IE issue since you are all using IE6. I'll leave this open, let's see who else is having this problem

It happened to me earlier tonight, but I've posted successfully every time since. IE6.

No problems at all with Firefox 1.0.6.

IE doesn't properly implement some standards like PNG images. It isn't W3C-compliant in many other respects. This could maybe, possibly have something to do with it. Either that or it is a previously undiscovered bug. When the problem is hunted down it should be submitted to Microsoft if this is an IE issue.

We aren't the only forums page either:
http://forums.slickdeals.net/printthread.php?t=79924

I previously said I was only posting text, but I was using quote tags within the post, and possibly a link too.

I left the frozen IE window open, locked my desktop, and left the house for about 9 hours. When I got back the message had been posted and IE was running fine.

I agree it does sound like an issue with IE.

BUT I would suggest the majority of BFC users (and the world) are on IE -
so we might not hear from many having problems.....
since they might not be able to post.......

Please remember we were not having these problems using IE, before the recent BFC issues.

I've had several instances of IE6 locking up pushing the "Submit Reply" button.

Seems we are not alone in this.....

Perhaps Admin could please publish an e-mail address "bucket" created specifically to report this problem -
just in case there are BFC members who have this problem but either cannot or do not wish to have to use multiple attempts to post?

Thanks,

If this is a problem with the software, they'll probably release a bug fix for it shortly.

Lightbulb

I think I may have closed in on the possible problem (for me)...

It seems that having a previous QUOTE makes the difference -
I just tried 2 posts and 2 edits withOUT the QUOTE tags and they posted really FAST, like there was no problems -
whereas the posts that I had problems with LOCKing-UP IE, seemed to all have been ones with previous QUOTEs

Could this be the problem?
- can others who have experienced this problem please try posting with QUOTE, and the same withOUT the QUOTE and see if makes a difference?

Thanks,

Test without quote=OK

I edited both posts to include the results. No luck with your theory, on this end, Vincent!

I just unnecessarily started a seperate thread for test posts (duh, should have just done it here). I did a bunch of quotes and nested some. No noticable speed difference.

I am definitely not experiencing a real crash, only delays. Some were for a few seconds, others were at least 10 minutes or longer. I click the button and it pauses, the whole window won't respond because it is thinking about loading/sending/whatever. Browser windows always do that, it just usually doesn't last more than a fraction of a second.

IE/windows will sometimes SAY it's not responding, but that doesn't mean it has crashed. It's still working on something, taking too long.

So far I have not had IE completely die so it wouldn't recover if I just waited long enough.

AARGH, it just did it again!

more details...

When it happens, the "button" is "stuck" in the pressed position. Normally when I have a slow connection and a post takes a few seconds to post, the button still clicks on/off quickly then takes time to upload and load the next page. When this current issue occurs with extended delays, the button appears pressed until IE recovers.

When I tried the QUOTE version the Preview worked first time and FAST -
but IE locked up when I actually tried to post.

I'll try just posting this withOUT any Preview,
and if successful, come back and edit the post......

Thanks,

Used QUOTE button BUT deleted QUOTE tag.

It's pretty obvious my post with the QUOTE above worked.

BUT when I tried to add with a simple EDIT - to acknowlwedge it worked - and report that when the Submit button was clcked it showed it depressed and there was no other action, like it locked-up - but after a short while there was some action and the evnetually posting.

However when I try Editing and did a Save Changes - IE did lock-up - I confirmed this by waiting - then checked with CTRL-ALT-Delete to see the BladeForums IE task was Not Responding before closing that task.

I just used Preview Post for this post - it worked and the response was FAST - I will now do a Submit - and try and come back and EDIT this post.....
again main difference seems to be just whether there was a QUOTE tag or NOT.......

EDIT - yep, for me it seems that a QUOTE tag makes a HUGE difference between being able to Preview and Submit Post normally,
and getting IE Lock-Ups with much, much higher frequency by including a QUOTE tag.
