Help me identify older SOG

I have a chance to buy a SOG fixed blade. Guy says he bought it 10-15 years ago. It looks, basically, like the Sog Tech but has no white washers...just a plain kraton handle (looks just like the one on my old Tiger Shark). Same blade configuration, but has a very nice polish, and brass guard. Blade is exactly 6". I remember liking this knife and was disappointed when they stopped making it, but can't remember what they called it. If you know what it is, I'd like to see a webpage with a picture and would like to know the steel used. thanks for any info. Oh.....it is almost like new, came (or comes with) a cordura sheath.....and the guy wants $85.00 This sounds like a fair price to me......comments?

That sog tech 1 is an awesome looking knife, I wish I had one, and yes, Aus6 and 440a are basically the same steel.

You know, it still amazes me when I see an awsome looking knife like this one and realize they are GONE !!!

No more will be made, it's all she wrote !

That is a really mean looking son of a gun ! It looks like it would be a perfect do all field/combat knife.

Now the question is why did they discontinue it.......

That's what I wondered when I finally decided to spring for one and they had been discontinued. Then the only ones I could find were on ebay with ridiculous prices because now they were "collectible". I swear, if they stopped making Gread Dane crap.....someone would try to sell it as a "collectible". <g>

You may want to see the SOG webpage of the Tech they've pulled off their site: http://www.sogknives.com/sogtech.htm

You might also want to see an image of one of SOG's older brochures (large file) which has the original larger Tech. Here's the other side of that brochure.

I have a Tech 1 I got last fall about this time. It's really nice. Gave it a convex edge. It rides on my Gun belt quite frequently.

Thanks for the pics. Cool stuff!!

Well, I bought it for 75 bucks, which I felt was fair, since this has always been one of my favorite SOG knives and I think they were well over a hundred dollars new. A few little blade scratches and the sheath like new. And, of course, they don't make it anymore so now it's a "collectible"

Wow! I just ran this thing a few times on the ol' Sharpmaker. Most of my knives are very high carbon or, in stainless, at least AUS8. I didn't expect as much from the 440A (AUS6, whatever). It must be true about SOG heat treatment. I'm impressed. I could shave with this sucker (tho' I don't think I will).

Thats great, yup SOG does a really good job with their heat treatment, you really can put a shaving sharp edge on it. About shaving with it, I don't recommend it, I tried it with my tigershark, BAD IDEA!!!!

ichor,

great price on the Tech I !!!!

YESSIR, you've discovered what I did: SOG did something "extra right" with that steel and the edge it takes is incredible !!!!

Cheers,

Carl

p.s. Ron, once again: YOU are the man !!!

I certainly know that I AM a man...but I'm not sure that I am THE man. But thanks for the compliment.

Their is actually a gun store about 30 minutes from my house that had 2 old tigershark's (keyword "had" cause i bought one...thinks theirs one left) and also had 2 of these SOG tech 1 when i last went about 2 monthes ago. The guy dropped the old tigershark down from retail price to somewhere around $120 or so because they had been their for so long...Good to know i have a place where i can go and buy the 2 SOG tech 1 and seel them on E-bay .
