I remember the Cutlery Shoppe used to carry these in their mail order catalog. Blued tool steel with Kraton handle. Tech II knife with a blued blade and Kraton handle. They also did the Tigershark the same way for a while, called it the "Midnight Tiger" as I recall.

A Tech II with a blued blade and Kraton handle. That's what I thought it was but the missing brass guard and no serrations with a Kraton handle through me off. So when you say blued tool steel it would have to be SK5?

Sold by Cutlery Shoppe from 1990 until about 1992. Relatively rare due to low sales. I don't think it was as popular as the SOG Tech at the time because it had the complete kraton handle without the brass fingerguard and you could easily blue the early Sog Tech's carbon blade anyway and still have the brass fitting. Also the Nite-Tech came in a cordura sheath when the SogTech's came in a nice leather sheath.

A Nite-Tech eh? Kewl. Never heard of it. Not as catchy as a Midnite Tiger but better than oh say ah......a Midnite Seal. It may not come with a nice leather sheath but look the one it does come with was made by Blackie Collins.Thanx for the info you guys! If all goes well I should have it in my grubby little hands by next week sometime.

Nite Tech !! Cool !! Love that SK-5 steel !!!

I have one, but it's very well-used, no bluing left. I haven't yet gotten around to adding some re-blue juice to see what happens.

Guilty as charged Carl. 7" X .250" of Seki-Japan high carbon gun-blued SK-5 steel with a Checkered Kraton handle. I got blind sided.

It was always interesting to see models that only Jeff had contracted. I had a CS Gerber II that was pretty slick as well as many Ek models that were interesting. Fun to go back to my knife mags from the 80's and compare prices. The SOG prices have stayed pretty consistent over the years. Fun stuff!!

Complete with Blackie Collins sheath. Of course I've used the the knife in defense of our great country (I bought it when I was a Senior Airman, I'll be retiring here as a Master Sergeant in a couple of months...).

I have that same scabbard from Blackie Collins. Purchased it from Cutlery Shoppe as well. Back in the 80's early 90's, that Cutlery Shoppe was my main source for a quick cutlery fix.

I can give a little of the design background on this one. The Tech knives are very beautiful. The mix between the brushed SS blade (SS on most of the models), the black Kraton handle, the brass cross-guard, and the sexy grind-lines make for overall stunning good looks.

In making the Midnight Tiger and the Nite Tech (I'm trying to remember if there where any other "nite" knives), the goal was to make it stealthy. In both of these knives, they certainly succeeded. Though the brass cross-guard is the standout feature which makes the knife unique, SOG couldn't keep that bright part and make it deadly in the dark.

I've handled dozens of these knives (the Midnight Tiger and the Nite Tech) and they have made a profound impression on me. When blued, a strangely surprising "dark" aspect of their innate personality is brought out.

I can't say for sure, but I thought the Nite Tech was sold through other venues. SOG has sometimes introduced a knife through an "exclusive" arrangement, then continued it after those sold out. In this case, I can't say for sure.

The most recent example I recall is when SOG offered a modified version of their Tigershark to US Cavalry and then made those changes on their standard model. I think it was when SOG added the serrations. My brain isn't working this afternoon, but I think the US Cavalry name was the SEAL Master (or something like that) and that SOG considered using that name on their newly updated version.

ah ha, "Seal Master" ..... I've seen that name and wondered what it was all about, even though it looked just like the basic SOG-company version.
