Testing out the Satin FFBM and AK Ruck!

Gimmejr and Hogwash met up at my place to have a little chopping fun with the Satin Convexed FFBM from my previous thread.

Thanks Hogwash for sacrificing your arm hairs for the test The Satin FFBM obviously shaved with no problem. As a matter of fact it still shaved after the 3 of us beat the hell out of it through 5 sections of 2X4s.

We also tested out Gimmejr's AK Ruck for some 2X4 chopping. Although it was not exactly designed for that it did a respectable job. Check out the video clips for the action and some comedy

I broke my chopping record today. I was able to chop through the 2X4 with only 17 chops. I previously did 20 chops with my FABM and also with Justabuyer's Full Convexed FFBM. On my second try I easily did it with 20 chops.

So yes, this thing will outchop my FABM for those who really want to know. Will I pick the Satin FFBM over my FABM. Hell No!

Yeah that Ruck took a bit of work for me to go through the 2X4. It still has the untouched thick factory edge which didn't make it any easier. Also, because it was long and thin it tends to vibrate alot on impact forcing me to reposition my grip.

WOW, that ruck bounced around like a toy.
Could it be the angle of attack on the wood grain?

Good fun, again. Thanks! btw, that one is called the Ruck Kensai, different than the AK-47.

Check out this website, for the cutting competition.

They have some nice pics, but no video. The record for the 2 x 4 Speed Chop is 2.97 sec.

Keep practicing.

Yeah, but as long as you are as strong as a 2x4, you might stand a chance of escape against that psycho. LOL

Trust me, you don't want to be that 2X4.

That little thing hanging off the end is the only thing that didn't break, it split lenthwise before I stopped (and it was about 6-7 ft long).

Ban tried my Ban modified SS4 on a 2X4. It did well for an EDC size knife.

if you use gloves, or have fat hands you can hit hard with it and it will outchop smaller blades if it has the same edge grind. The greater leverage of an AK or a Ruck is amazing. I like the ruck because it is thicker than the AK

Aren't both the AK and AK Ruck 3/16? I will try gloves next time around. I am sure a thinner edge would help alot also.

YOWZA 2.97 sec is super duper fast!!!! Do you happen to know where I can see some pics of that cutting event? I am really curious to see how that 2X4 is held together for the cut. It must be held very firmly with hardly any give. They are also most likely doing it standing where you can generate much more force and speed by using the hips and whole body to drive the blade.

I only bring this up because we chop the 2X4 on top of plywood on a uneven floor. More importantly it is also done kneeling which simulates how I would most likely chop in the field. Alot of energy is dispersed through the give of the uneven floor. If I can't generate enough speed the cuts will be very shallow because the slower blade gives the 2X4 a chance to disperse the energy through the plywood and uneven floor. With speed there is less chance of that happening. Also, I cannot make full use of my hips and legs to drive my whole body into the cut while kneeling. I think I need to build a stand of some sort next time to see the difference.

But man 2.97 is crazy fast. I think I would be happy if I could do it in 7 secs... Ok 7 secs it is.... that will be my goal with a either a FABM or some other form of large Busse Just give me a few years and alot of 2X4s to practice
