Perfect Fit, but...

Took delivery yesterday of a couple of Spec-Op Combat Master sheaths. Quickly modded one for my SH-E by putting a nice groove on one side of the sheath. I've liked the fact that the kydex liners protruded above the top of the nylon. This condition has allowed me to mod the liner such that talon-hole humps can slide down, allowing the scales to fit snug to the liner.

My SH-E was a perfect fit once I made the modification. However, the other sheath, intended for a SR Chopweiler, has no protrusion of kydex. I contacted Spec-Ops to see what was up, and a sales manager informed me that "all current production liners are being made so that they do sit almost below the nylon. This is being done because the Army needs them to be fully IR compliant and black kydex is highly ir reflective."

Just a word to the wise...

Great sheath. I have one of the older ones so had to make the mod for my BATAC to fit. Good info on the current ones. Great pic and knives.

Sorry to hear they're changing their sheath style. I have my beloved Hell Razor and a Badger in Spec-Ops sheaths with the same modification, and they fit like the sheaths were made for them!

Will the larger Spec-Ops fit an FSH?

I just had a look at the home page for this brand and found this

Unique "MULTI-FIT" KYDEX® liner securely holds most blade widths and thicknesses (removable for cleaning).

does that mean I can mod the liner and have it fit super snug, or am I getting too excited about this. The BATAC will sit on my hip whilst stalking through the bush, not too much rough stuff

resinguy, I've seen one thread here with a HHFSH in a long Spec-Ops sheath. I do believe the thicker knife requires a bit of modification of the liner (heating and shaping).

If I remember correctly, it was mymindisamob who made the rig, though he's now sold the knife and sheath. Here are some pics that he posted. I didn't easily find the thread where he writes about the mods, so you might just PM him.

I heat them with a hair dryer and mold them to fit how I want. You just have to be careful not to overheat. Heated, however, the kydex bends and will take a set pretty easily.

Please do note my comment above about the sheath design changing though. The kydex slips on current production models do not extend beyond the nylon. If you want the older style, you'll have to ask the vendor if he/she still has them.

Thanks for the shots, I know what the new BATAC LE will need when it gets here. I ordered a black leather sheath from the company store but that was for my CG Badger, black with blue G10 handles.

Or, if you want a bigger gear pocket, order the Survival Sheath version here

http://www.survivalsheath.com/sheaths/index.htm

I talked to Robert the other day and ordered one for my Ban-ned FSH. He said Spec-Ops will not be continuing this model, but you can still get it from him. Robert is a member here, and has a forum

Yep, they're discontinuing the Survival model and going with just the Combat Master. I saw that on an eBay vendor's auction.

I just got one for a Chopweiler. Arrived in what is apparently the old configuration: Kydex above the nylon.

TAD Gear is your friend.

Yep, most vendors have the older ones. But by 2008, I think they'll only be getting the newer versions in from Spec-Ops.

Ban,
Another good place to order these sheaths is lapolicegear.com (http://www.lapolicegear.com/spbrallit.html). I've ordered a bunch of other goodies from them. Their prices are very reasonable. I'm thinking of getting one of the combat master sheaths for that SJTAC you're working on. Haven't pulled the trigger yet though, as I'm also considering leather or kydex. Waiting the standard "two weeks", I've had too much time to think about it and can't decide, lol!

fyi, there is a LOT of bad reviews on LA Police Gear over in the GBU. YMMV

Good to know. However, I have placed at least three orders with them on clearanced items and/or sheaths with no complaints. Are they as bad as Botach? I had a good record with them for years until one atrocious transaction put me off them for good.
