Starting a CLB collection...

Just picked up a SubCom, a Trance and a MPT today. I'm mostly satisfied, nonetheless, there're tiny issues which realy trouble me:

The coating on them wears off way too easily, although not as fast as those on their CRKT counterparts. Just after three slices on a flyer the coating started to come off, a tiny bit.

Moreover, the sheath made for the MPT isn't what could be qualified as ideal: it's too damn tight when you shove the entire blade in it, and if you try to pull it out with only one hand, you have to be very strong, or, dispointed. Perhaps that's because it's new, hopefully it will become easier to handel with after some use. I doubt seriously.

Despite these mentioned minor flaws, I'm planning to expand my Böker Plus CLB collection in BLACK, with the M-type, the Hyper, the ResCom, and the forthcoming Direkt.

Chad, keep up the good work; and Böker, thanks for helping my wallet to loose weight. (Don't work too hard though, otherwise I won't have enough resources to purchase all of them) ^^

PS: why doesn't SubClaw come in BLACK??? (I know the niche just isn't big enough...)

hey congrats on the CLB scores Man of Iron....
i've found the coating on the MType/ Hyper to be much more abrasion resistant my MPT sheaths are snug...i use my thumb to push the lip of the sheath forward to disengage the blade from the sheath....the unique handle of the MPT has grown on me over the weeks, very secure even in wet conditions....the MPT is a great kitchen/food prep knife too lol

I also find most snug sheaths are snug exactly at that opening and a thumb shove pops them out past it better than trying to drag the whole blade.

My Ranger Knife/Sissipuukko and Swedish Army Knife (clipper) both have a protrusion just above the opening for the thumb to push off.

My MPT sheath was really snug at first, but loosened after some carry and draws.
I will probably have to snag the Direct when it comes out - such a nice blade...

IMHO, I think the Subcom series (Subcom, Subclaw, Rescom, Wharcom, etc), are the best little knives for the $$. I have large hands, & while I've gotten rid of most of my Subcoms, to try out other little knives, I keep coming back to them. I'm waiting on a Wharcom, probably my favorite of the Subcom series (For overall use).

I don't know why, but I haven't tried or gotten ANY of the larger folders (Trance, etc).

Trance feels indeed differently, and seemingly less robust than SubCom series, giving the same thickness of the framelocks, while the SubCom series are shorter and wider.

By the way, you could wave with all of them, although they all have their inherent problems: the half discs on the SubCom don't catch the edge of the pocket smoothly, whereas the round thumbstud on the Trance might just slip off. Nonetheless, I love the flipper on the Trance, great fun to use.

If I have the time, I might change the plastic discs around the pivots with metal ones.

I really like and appreciate the SubComs. So much so that I recently purchased a MType and a Hyper. The Hyper seems to be the ideal and could easily be the next 'Spyderco Delica' to the knife world. I am somewhat disappointed in my MType, though. It seems to drag on opening. It is not nearly as smooth and natural as my SubCom or Hyper.

The Hyper could even see use as an EDC if the municipality I reside in, as well as those I am most likely to frequent in my daily life, did not restrict blades to 2.5-inches or less.

I would like to see some limited runs of these made in Germany, Argentina as well as the United States of America.

hi willm, I agree with your comments above.... when my plainedge MType was newer, I had to almost use a wrist flick to get it open....after lots of knifesturbation, its much "slicker" now....but still no where near the ease of opening the Hyper but I still love the MType...the thick G-10 scale with those grooves feel really awesome in my hand

Thanks! I am glad to hear there is some hope for my MType in the future. I just need to spend some time with it. It gets very little use as its main role is to hang next to a Surefire G2 in the closet.

hi willm, my guess it has a lot to do with the massively wide blade of the MType....more inertia to overcome w/the thumbstud

Don't complain about the quality , taken with my mobile. Quick setup with a poncho on the garden table.

The Crusader doesn't have a sawback like the profile suggests, but double edges/sharpened false edge. The paid less attention to details like they did on the 2007, great blade nonetheless.

Now I want RAMPAGE

PS, the lanyard/cord on the new EDIT looks a lot like that on the Triumph, or vice versa.

My dealer also has 2 Spydie Lava designed by Daywalker, he offered me the option to take one home, and pay later which I didn't.

Great design, better quality, but it's a totally different league. It's on my list for sure, the sad thing is (like the most of us), I put more knives on my list than I could finish it
