JK fat kephart review, and some new scores!

Heres a review of my 3/16 keppy I recieved from stomper. Its a great blade with lots of heft to it. The thickness and blade stylemakes this a great heavy duty knife usuable in most every situation. Johns grinds are great, and with a 2 week turn around, and a 115 dollar price tag, its hard to beat IMO.

I have always loved the kephrt. I love the design, and it seems to be the style I am most drawn to. I wanted a thicker one cause I have seen and used the thinner ones, and I was curious to how the 3/16 blade would perform. I tried to be unbiased in this review, and find any flaws in the knife, but I was unsuccessfull. The only thing I would change would be a wicked convex grind. The knife is shaving sharp, but I can take care of a convex easier, and its easy to take care of in the field.

Overall I can fully reccomend this blade if youre wanting a no frills, heavy duty working tool. John is an outstanding maker that is really developing a loyal following around here. His work speaks for itself, and hes a standup guy, and a great business man to boot. john.

The baldric rig was given to me and made by knifemaker John H, and it is fantastic, and looks great, completing the total package on this knife. I adde the ring to the sheath and the snap links to the baldric to be able to switch from belt to baldric w/o major issues.

John also rehandled my firesteel too, and it matches the knife great.......

Knife is 3/16 O1, black micarta handles with solid 1/4 in pins, and lanyard hole
8.5 overall, with a 4in blade.

contact info, he goes by stomper here on the forum

My scores. My JK fat kephart, Tidioute sarpent w/ ilbruche leather, and a case seahorse whittler

Knife feels superb in hand, Theres some heft to it, but its not bad IMO
The size is great too.

batons wood with ease

after batoning the edge held up great. Dont mouth my fuzzing abilities, im workin on it

The shape and thickness of the blade makes it easy to dig too

J - Great scores! I love that GEC, but I don't know about that Ilbruche guy's stuff... You might wanna send that up here for a QC.

That Baldric needs a BRKT golok to go with it!

A golok.... Oh yeah that would rock. The GEC is a sweet folder, Ilbruche said he thought this was his first piece of leather he made. Pretty nice huh?

Thanks mike, its badazz huh?

That GEC is a great folder, I am not a folder guy really, but I really am inpressed with the craftsmanship of this one. It will be a sidekick thats for sure.

The case seahorse is my first case knife. I really like the blades on this one. Its got alot of utility, and is very handy. Gotta love orange too......

Yours was the first I did with the black liners. When I was making these two, my wife asked why I was making two of the same knife, when I was done with them they were different as night and day.

GET THAT KNIFE OUT AND GET IT DIRTY!!!

John

Oh I plan to. I had it out yesterday, feeding it wood, just no camera to mark the event.
