I bought a Camillus Lineman's Knife from a seller on E-bay. It was in good condition except the blade, not the spike, wouldn't close all the way.I checked out this site and others to see why the blade might not shut all the way. I thnk it has been ground down from a Hawkbill or some other type blade. I contacted the seller and she said the person who she got the knife from said the blade never shut because the lineman would simply slide wire under the blade to open the knife. I never heard of anything like this. What's the scoop on this knife? Fact or fiction? The seller agreed to give me back my money if I find the original blade was ground off so much it would appear not to close. I don't want to rip this seller off as she really is trustworthy and admits to not knowing much of anything about knives.

A picture would really help, but what is usually referred to as a linesman's knife has a screwdriver blade and a clip or drop point blade, no spike. A rigging knife (also known as a sailing knife, yachtsmans knife, etc.) usually has a spike and a sheepsfoot blade. If a sheepsfoot blade was ground to the shape of a clip point blade, it might not look like it is closing all the way.

The part about a linesman sliding wire under the blade to open it is BS.

Post a link to the ebay item.

The seller said she was appalled that she had sent me a damaged knife. She refunded all of my money, including the shipping, and told me to keep the knife for my troubles. I saw the blade has been ground down so far it looked partially open when closed. :(
