Damascus question! Help!

1. I know nothing about metals. Expect ignorance. You were warned.
2. Is it possible to create Damascus from exotic materials (even if the result isn't technically Damascus), given the physical limitations as to which metals will mix and work with other metals, and what combinations will have suitable hardness, etc.?
3. Sooo... what exotic non-steel Damascus metal combinations are possible and pragmatic for use? Titanium and gold? Titanium and copper? Billet, silver, bronze, brass, Chromium-Molybdenum, tantalum... ?

If you were thinking outside the box and wanted to create something new and amazing, what would it be? I hereby solicit your ideas. Thanks!
