Edmunds.com and other vehicle buying sites?

Is Edmunds useful and legit for the consumer, especially when it comes to figuring out an acceptable price for a new vehicle? I noticed they have something called "TMV" (True Market Value). Has that been independently verified to be reasonably accurate and reliable?

If the question consumer has is "could I do better pricewise over a reasonable time frame" is Edmunds useful in that regard? Are there better sites/resources?

Somewhat unrelated, but I am guessing the true vehicle cost for the dealer is not publicly available anywhere?

Thanks

I've used Edmunds for the reviews, but not been impressed with their (or anyone else's) pricing. The only thing that matters is what you can actually buy or sell a particular vehicle for in YOUR area, at THIS particular time. The only advice I can give you is to shop around as much as you can.

I think truecar.com was very helpful to me in my last purchase.
