Hey guys, anyone ever made a bayonet before? Im thinking about making one for my AR-15. I have wanted to make one for a while now, but I was looking through an old Sep 2009 Tactical Knives Magazine, and saw this really cool Kel-Tec folding bayonet. Ive never seen a folding bayonet before so I am amazed by it. Plus its just as fine as a pocket knife. Made from D2 tool steel, Zytel and Carbon Fiber handle. Here's a Link to the magazines actual website with that same article. That article is true about the wieght issue, I hate the wieght of an M9 bayonet, and M7 bayonets on the end of the AR. Anyway, since I dig this design so much I wanna make one based of this particular style.

Heres a High Res. But its closed.

So How should I make the loop? Im thinking about making one of the press brake in that DIY thread I wrote, but making it able to have a 90 degree angle bender attachment, but also give it a slip on piping or tube to bend circular bends. I could probably do this but it will be a lot to do and probably a lot of bending to get it correct. And a lot of Trial and Error. So is there anyone who knows an easier way to make this loop? I'm not much of a forger because I haven't really given it much of a try, but could I throw some D2 billet in a forge and shape it some how over a pipe, that fits the same diameter? I dont know what I would do about the flat parts, under the loop, attached to handle.

Also, does anyone know where to get a sheet or block of Zytel? I dont know if I will even use it for this project, but I wanted some a long time ago. But just gave up the search because I couldn't find any. I believe is a DuPont product.

If anyone has any thought or ideas, feel free to throw em out there.

Nice bayonet
I will love to have one of those,
The serration call my attention I will try something like that some time.

On the loop
I have done something similar on a press brake
After I lay out on master cam, figure out the length of the material and angle,
Depend on, diameter, material thiknees, length of flats and opening between flats.

Process:
Drill de holes
Bend to (30 deg@)first,
and for the round part,
use channel die on bottom, and,
on top a round die.

On my garage I probable, drill, bend on a vice. And hot form over a solid bar.

Best regards

I'm sketching up a bayo design myself right now for a friend's rifle. Although the one I'm doing will be a traditional fixed blade.
Anyways, I don't have anything useful to add, just wanted to say post up some pics of your progress. I'd be real interested to see how it comes along!
