OK folks...this may end up sounding like a commercial more than anything, and part of me is wondering WHY in the world I am sharing this little jewel of a secret, but here it goes anyway...call it joyous lunacy!
I found (over on bf.com) a custom knife maker by the name of Michael Morris and was very intrigued by his knives and his designs and his overall appearance of his blades. I sent him an email and within 24 hours had a very nice response back and interest in making me a knife - fixed blade EDCer. I had in mind what I wanted, but sometimes getting that communicated to someone else is the challenge.
What Michael suggested was that I look at his albums on bf.com and let him know what I liked and what I would like to see incorporated in to my knife. Well - that was very helpful and then Michael STILL took some of my ideas and tried to meld all the "likes and wants" into a knife for me.
Well, as we spoke via email and via phone he and I were able to design the "perfect knife for me. It was so perfect, in fact, that I ordered TWO! One for me and one for my 8 year old son so that we could have matching knives when (as he puts it) "do dad stuff together." (you gotta' love the father/son bond!)
So - I got the knives in the mail today and HOLY COW :woohoo: are these things amazing! I have seen many a knife in my time and handled some pretty sweet custom fixed blades and Michale's knives could compete with ANY of them. I am sure we have seen some "custom knife makers" make some pretty crummy pieces of metal...well, these are not your typical pieces! The fit and finish and balance and overall quality of these knives are amazing! Michale uses old files (100% made in the USA files) and then creates his materpieces.
These things are made for working and feel like they could take a direct hit from a nuke and still look good. Here's the kicker - the knife WITH the sheath were less than $120/each. The knives with leather were going t be around $100 but the kydex added alittle price. Michale's goal is to make knives that he loves and that the user loves for a reasonable price.
If you all are intrigued you can find him over on bf.com in the Custom Knife Maker section or online at morrisknivesonline.com
Here are a few pics for you to see what I am talking about. One of the pictures shows a close up of Michale's signature and the other side has PROV 27:17 which says, "As iron sharpens iron, so does one make sharpen another." I asked him to put that Bible verse on there for me and my son to share together...
