I'm looking for a source for reasonably priced friction fit style sheaths.

I've got 2 knives that need sheaths, one with a 5" blade and another with a 7" blade. Dangler or non-dangler is fine.

Thanks

There are fine sheaths out there but why not make them yourself - its fun, cheap and easy to do?

For not a lot of money, you can buy some leather and the basic leather working tools.

As mentioned, its a lot of fun and there is an amount of satisfaction in making your own gear.

Besides Harry Savage, who made a fine replica sheath for my Catt 225Q —

I can also recommend Bear Tooth Leather (Ralph Hunt Williams) in Bozeman.

I'm sure he could make a totally plain-jane sheath, but if you want a special pattern, I suggest you look at both his knife sheath page http://www.beartoothleather.com/knifesheaths.php and his knives pages http://www.beartoothleather.com/knives.php.

The sheath page has a coding glitch in that the images don't pop up, so what you do is right-click and save the images to the desktop and then open them. On the knife page, you get clickable larger images showing patterns. Lots of designs to choose from.

I bought this medium coureur des bois knife and sheath from him (as always, i ask for a lefty sheath):

Excellent work, reasonably priced.

Sharpshooter sheaths works well
I have used them three times for sized different knives

TOPS Cub, modded the knife took off the choil and then wet the sheath and then used shoe polish
Fits very tightly

Unfortunately they have upped their prices

Also check out kniveshipfree.com. I bought one of their Wilderness models that protects the handle, and it's a very high quality piece.

LT Wright sells his JRE sheaths separately. Dangler and non-dangler. Left and right handed. That's how I sourced the last two sheaths I needed. Probably won't work for knives with double guards though.

Newman, I got the Sharpshooter for my 5" blade and am thrilled. Thanks for the great tip. Now I just need to find something similar for the bigger knife.

Thanks!!

Neeman, I got that one too based on the description and it's the same size. Really only for a 5" or less blade. I'll try to post pictures later.

Might be worth searching on usaknifemaker.com. I recently got one of their generic "taco" style sheaths, for a 4" blade hunter. I was impressed with the quality. It was about $22.00.
