The Becker Brother-in-Law: My new JAB Potbelly

I guarentee it would own anything Lynn Thompson wanted to stuff full of meat....The Potbelly is like an Alien that burst out of the chest of a BK2 three days ago.

I don't own anything Mr. Thompson had put out. Nothing in his lineup makes even my top ten...

ETA: Ok, that's not entirely true. I do have a Trailhawk.

Depends on your amount of choppers. I'm deep on them, for my needs. Otherwise, get the BK4. I probably will sooner or later too...This one is just so unique I had to. There's just nothing common to compare it to. She's got a big ass...thats fo' sho!

If you don't have one by June, let me know, you can borrow mine. May, it is promised to someone already. I'd like to give the JAB PB a go.

Oh yeah, love my Potbelly! Like an axe and a razor had an illegitimate love child. If it make you folks feel any better, my Potbelly thinks she's a Becker. :D Congrats on the new addition Tanner. By the way, this was the most difficult Ka-Bar/Becker that I've ever stripped. Stuff just didn't want to let go.

Some Potbelly porn.

I've opened up the choil at the ricasso since these pics. It makes for a really nice choke up, on detailed work.

That potbelly intrigues me, I like choppers with hollow grinds, kbar cutlass is a great chopper, I like to take big bites....is it bad that I like to watch Lynn Thompson chop meat bags??

I am curious as to how the handle feels? That design looks like it would either work great for the user or be a total nightmare depending on hand size. I read where you said it was more comfortable with the bigger blade. I wonder how it feels after extended use.

It does look like it will destroy some wood though. Grats

How contoured are the handles? Is there much palm swell?

I've never shaped micarta before, so I'm wondering how simple it would be to make new scales that match the factory shape if/when I get one.

I've made several set of scales and knife handles and I can tell you that micarta is tough stuff! But that also means you go slower than G-10 and theres less chance of stuff up so overall I'd say making scales for the Jab Potbelly/Baconmaker are about a 4/10 for fixed blade scale making as theres not much contour on them.

Here she is....stripped with an initial polish on the grind. Now, off to the master for her clich treatment....

Attack of the choil. :D Say what you will, but it feels soooo good.

She's looking good Tanner!

Damn! You got LINERS on that thing? Handle wasn't big enough for ya? I'm not big on choils, myself.

Yeah, but the difference in width is probably no more than your handle with the wrap. I used super thin kydex. I'm not a choilaholic by no means, but if it suits the blade and more importantly, how I use it, I find value in them. SUch is the case with the Potbelly. For me anyway.

You really have to pick one up in your hand to appreciate it. Its like the first time you pick up a BK2 (obviously, this is heavier).

It is currently under the custodianship of the USPS en route to Pennsylvania for its date with destiny....
